My tv has a thin red line running from top to bottom on the left hand side of the tv. I am a bit gutted(polite way) as it is only 14months old.
Can anyone advise on problem and if it is easy repair.

Sony panels run around $1,500.00 and up. Go to Face Book and type in (I Have a Defective SONY TV.) Click on LIke So you can Post Your Problem. Their you can get a replacement TV From SONY !!!! If it turns out that you do have a Bad Display Panel.
I just read some Sony literature about T-Con issues and how to determine if the problem is the T-Con or the LCD panel. One of the examples they gave was exactly as you are describing. Unfortunately according to Sony the panel has failed and the only way to fix the problem would be replacement which is very cost prohibitive. Your other option would be to contact Sony and make them aware of your situation. Try speaking with as many people as possible and write down names. I have heard of times that they replaced the TV for free but to be honest I don't know of anyone who has been that lucky. Their number is 1-239-768-7547

Are these lines visible regardless of what device (DVD player, cable box) you are watching? If so, then yes, it appears the LCD panel is failing. If you only see the lines watching one device, it could be the cable/wire or the device itself. Now it can also be the related input jacks too so connect the device to another input to be sure.
