How do I get jammed paper out of the back of it?

This is from the user guide available on the HP.com website:
This section contains the following topics:
• Clear paper jams
• Avoid paper jams
Clear paper jams
Paper jams can occur either inside the printer or in the automatic document feeder.
CAUTION: To prevent possible damage to the printhead, clear paper jams as
soon as possible.
TIP: If you notice poor print quality, clean the printhead. For more information, see
Clean the printhead.
Use these steps to clear a paper jam.
To clear a jam inside the printer
1. Remove all media from the output tray.
CAUTION: Trying to clear a paper jam from the front of the printer can
damage the print mechanism. Always access and clear paper jams through
the automatic two-sided printing accessory (duplexer).
2. Check the duplexer.
a. Push the button on either side of the duplexer, and then remove the unit.
b. Locate any jammed media inside the printer, grasp it with both hands and
then pull it towards you.
c. If the jam is not there, push the latch on top of the duplexer and lower the
cover. If media is jammed inside, carefully remove it. Close the cover.
d. Reinsert the duplexer into the printer.
3. Open the top cover and remove any debris.
4. If you have not found the jam and have Tray 2 installed, pull out the tray and
remove the jammed media, if possible. If not, do the following:
a. Ensure the printer is turned off and disconnect the power cord.
b. Lift the printer off Tray 2.
c. Remove the jammed media from the bottom of the printer or from Tray 2.
d. Reposition the printer on top of Tray 2.
5. Open the ink cartridge access door. If there is paper remaining inside the printer,
ensure the carriage has moved to the right of the printer, free any paper scraps or
wrinkled media, and pull the media towards you through the top of the printer.
WARNING! Do not reach into the printer when it is on and the carriage is
stuck. When you open the ink cartridge access door, the carriage should
return to its position on the right side of the printer. If it does not move to the
right, turn off the printer before you remove any jam.
6. After clearing the jam, close all covers, turn on the printer (if you turned it off) and
resend the print job.

That's about as much as I can find for you. If you look in you user guide which is on a CD that came with the unit, you can go to page 152 through 154 to see diagrams that go with these instructions. Good luck!

1Open the upper-front cover and remove the toner cartridge.2
Look into the printer. Remove any jammed sheets of paper that you find there.

  • If the print job only consisted of this one page, reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover. Press the pattlnk_10162008_2247-select_button.jpg button to clear the error, and then try printing again.

  • If the print job consisted of more than one page, confirm the entire paper path is clear before printing again. Do the following:

    1. Remove the top paper tray ('Tray 1').
    2. Remove any jammed or partially-fed sheets of paper you find here, then reinstall the tray.
    3. Go around to the back of the machine and open the upper-rear cover. Remove any jammed sheets of paper you find, then close the cover.
    4. Once you have confirmed that the entire paper path is clear, reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover.
    5. Press the pattlnk_10162008_2247-select_button.jpg button to clear the error, and then try printing again.

  • If you cannot locate any jammed paper under the toner cartridge, then check the rest of the printer for any jammed paper. Do the following:

    • Remove the top paper tray ('Tray 1') and look for any jammed or partially-fed sheets of paper.
    • If you do not find any jammed pages there, reinstall the tray and go around to the back of the machine. Open the upper-rear cover and look there.
    • If the entire paper path appears to be clear, close the rear cover and power off the printer. Reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover. Power the printer back on. If a 200 error continues on power up, a sensor in the printer may be malfunctioning. This will require a service call to correct the issue. Paper jamming in my Canon ix4000 After I pulled the crumpled paper out it continues to do the same thing. I don't know how to get at the jam area to free it

If your printer reports paper jam for any reason, you may need to go through the Clearing paper jam procedure for your printer to respond to the print command again. So follow the procedure below to do this.
Even if you are not a technical person, you can conveniently clear paper jams. All you need is to follow the set of procedures outlined below.
1 Put off the printer and unplug it from its power source.
2 Open all the covers/shutters on the printer (usually you will find one in the front or top and one at the back of the printer).
3 (If the printer is a DeskJet, otherwise ignore this step) Now pull out the cartridge carefully and place it on safe surface. (Be careful not to place it where it may slide and fall. This could damage the cartridge)
4 Site the paper that has jammed and pull it out in the opposite direction of its movement. Do not pull in the direction it was coming out. (Pulling the paper in the opposite direction is important for the printer's mechanism. Printer must be off). Never pull out paper from a printer when the printer is powered on.
5 (If the printer is a DeskJet, otherwise ignore this step) Return the cartridge gently and press it firmly inside so that you here it snap inside.
6 Close all covers at the top, front or back.
7 Power on your printer and you should be able to print again.

Replace your paper pickups and set your paper tray setting correct, both in the tray and the settings menu. That should help you out. The part# for paper-pickups is RF5-3739.
