Clarify do you not have one or is it just empty?

My Canon will let me print when the color is empty granted it gives me alot of alerts but it will still print black and white stuff just fine.

    I do have a color ink cartridge, but it is empty. I removed it hoping that I could print just using the full black ink cartridge that is in there? I set the settings to print black only.

    With my Canon that is what I do I leave the color in and set it to print Black and White only.

    Does yours not let you do this?

    Yeah I tried putting the empty color ink cartridge in there, and having the printer setting to print black only, and it still gives me an error message saying that the color cartridge is empty, and it won't let me print. I guess the manufacturer just wants people to spend money on color ink cartridges even if they don't need or use them?

    On mine it asks me if I changed the cartage. Did you try telling the printer that you put in a new color cartage to see if it would let you print.

    Another option is you might try to have it refilled. Normally it is cheaper then buying a new one. However some of the cartage can not be refilled. This could be the issue with your printer. The easy way to know is go to your local refill place an check there list of ones the can not refill because of the chip that is in the cartage.

    Let me know how things go

How do I make a test page for my printer to check color.

You need to clarify :
1. Your printer cannot print color even though it prints color well from a test page;
2. Your printer cannot print color in a test print page.

If it is the first one, then you have to set it properly in Window Print Configuration page of that printer;
If it is the second one, then you have to check whether you have installed the color ink cartridge properly in the printer. If the color ink cartridge is installed properly, try to replace another new color ink cartridge. Finally it is still not work, then you have to bring back to the repair center.

Won't print in color

How long have you had color ink cartridge in the printer for? Have you triple checked you have set the settings to print color? If it still persist then the possibilities are your ink color cartridge is out of ink? have you made sure it's installed properly?

I have a Lexmark Pinnacle Pro 901 printer and its set up to print using black ink only, but it keeps telling to replace color cartridges and it won't let me print at all, how do I print using blac

The printer would need all cartridges to have sufficient ink levels to continue printing - that's to prevent damaging the printhead. Every time a cartridge is replaced, all colors are primed simultaneously thus the need for all cartridges to have ink.

To save on your ink investment, try printing in draft mode and by making sure that your printing preferences is set to print using black ink only.

My Pinnacle Pro 901 is set to print using black ink only but it keeps telling me I need to replace color cartridges and won't print.

You won't be able to print if one of the cartridges is out of ink. The printer needs all cartridges with sufficient ink levels to prevent damaging the printhead.

Every time a cartridge is replaced, all colors are primed simultaneously thus the need for all cartridges to have ink.

The printer won't print. It says replace the color ink cartridge. All I want to do is print black and white.

You can only use the black ink cartridge without the color ink. But no need to replace them in your printer.
When you print just choose black and white for the printed text must be black not colored. But if you still received such notification...just try to replace the color ink cartridge to continue printing
Note: As per my experience. printer with exclusive black ink alone will damage the printer easily due to unbalance printing of ink

I ran out of both black and color ink. I replaced the black ink b/c I do not print in color. But I cannot complete the alignment steps without the color ink.

Lexmark printers usually require both cartridges to have ink left in them to continue printing. But try to press the Cancel button for the Alignment process (this is not recommended). Then try to print a document again to verify that you are able to continue printing without an empty color ink.
If that doesn't help, I would suggest you replace your color cartridge with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge.

The printer's black ink cartridge won't print without the Tri-color print cartridge

Most of the HP printers are designed to allow printing onlywhen all cartridges are installed and
have ink.
Install a new tri-color ink cartridge and printing will continue as usual.
My printer, which is HP, does the same thing as yours, until I replace the empty cartridge,
printing stops.
