Question about Computer Monitors

1 Answer

PC monitor not lighting up for around 10 mins

Where Dell Flat screen 15inch monitor has not been used for a period of time or on boot up the screen displays for a seond then goes black (although in a certain light you can see the icons and programs in use). If you switch the monitor off and back on again the display appears for a second and goes black again. If you complete this around 30 to 40 times then the display appears fully lit up.
Throughout this time, where the monitor is switched on, the power button appears green

Check the capacitors on the power supply board inside the monitor. They malfunction, heat up, leak or pop and stop doing what they are designed to do, smooth out the power supply to the inverter and display board. You can replace these simply by buying the correct farrad, voltage and temperature rated replacements online for about .30 a piece or go to radio shack and spend 1.50 a piece. You can use a higher voltage like 35V instead of 25V but try and get the 105c rated ones to last longer in the hot P/S environment. My bad ones were 470 micro farrad, 25V and 105c rated and I had 4 out of 8 pop or bulge.

When I turn off my Dell monitor E152FPc for hours, the monitor blinks and will not come on until I have turned the monitor off and on a lot of times

The power supply board is on the verge of failing, the cause is often a bad capacitor that opens, in some cases there may be more than one involved, leaving a bulge at the top leaking it's contents making it easier to nail down.

You need a new driver for the monitor. Are you now using a new Operating System? Perhaps Windows 7? Go to the http://dell.com websit and look up your monitor under downloads and drivers. Fidn the compatible driver for your operating system and download it.

It turns off after 10 minutes working

When you say it turns off, is the power light going out too?

If the power light is still lit when the screen blanks, it may be a faulty backlight inverter.

After 10 minutes elapse and the screen goes out, if you power it back on, do you get another 10 min, or does it last a much shorter time period, or not at all?

Your best bet is probably simply to buy a new monitor, and sell yours as "broken" on eBay, I'm sure someone out there capable of fixing it would be willing to pay pennies on the dollar to subsidize your replacement screen.

I just bought a dell flat planel monitor its coonnected fine but unable to see any vedio on the screen

I'm assuming the monitor switches on, ie the the orange light comes on when plugged in or turns green once the pc is booting up? If not check the plug fuse or cable connecting monitor to pc. If all is ok can you see the bios screen as the pc boots up, you should at least be able to see that as this doesn't require any drivers. If not, try the monitor on another computer, if it works on another pc then its something to do with your graphics card. Hope this helps.

Inside there is a IC chip on the power pack that goes bad, replacement is called for also look for bad capacitors when you are inside looking around, those need to be replaced as well
hope this clears things up. dells third party who built these units did a rotten job on this model. that chip always fails.

Dell - 17" flat screen

This sounds like the back light is gone on the monitir... to check this look very close at the monitor whet the PC has booted, if you see a VERY dim image on screen then it suggests that the back light is gone.

Many monitors hace a 3 year warranty so I would try a warranty claim before throwing it away
