Question about Western Digital My Book Essential Edition (WDG1U5000N) 500 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Hi guys, Apprecite for ur expert advise pls? I boot my laptop (Acer Travelmate 4050 series) but it was halted during the booting process (no response after i key-in my windows password). I plugged out the power cord to reboot. (normally on 2nd attempt it will run/reboot smoothly). Unfortunately, it shows one error screen, and give selection to choose to run in safe mode or as per normal.(along with several other options). Selecting any of these selections, the system halted again when executing Mup.Sys . I tried with 2 method : a) chg boot sequence to cdrom -> use bootable cd (provided when purchase the laptop) -> it prompts "this will install windows in ur primary disk,Note:all data in primary disk will be destroyed " q : some poeple said this will not delete the files in my primary disk, is it true? b) i took out the harddisk and put it in external case.but when tried to acess the data, was prompted with message "e:\ is not acessible, error performing inpage operations " pls help to advise, should there is still hope to retrieve my data?

    hi potex18,

after the chkdsk action, everything went went out smoothly. I managed to access to the data already (with the enclosure). Put back in the laptop, set boot sequence from hdisk, place in the bootable cd, i can access to the OS without any installations.. After backup all the data, i run recovery console and format everything..Thanks for ur help n advises. nice working with you~ ("p)

Hi. In order to resolve this issue. Boot in to your CDROM drive while the operating system disk is in there then run the recovery console. This will put the Mup.sys file back to your computer. Possible cause of this is corrupted mup.sys file which is essential in booting the harddrive. Another troubleshooting is, since you took out the harddrive and put it in your enclosure look for computer with the same operating system and copy its mup.sys file into your harddrive. This file is located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers. That will do the trick.

    Thanks potex18!

Sorry, may i verify on few things?

    a) upon booting the Cd, it prompts to install OS,and will delete all my files in C: drive. If i proceed, will it delete all my files in c?or i just simply ignore it?

sorry, i'm a bit concern to keep my data and a bit confused on why they [ut that kind of notifications in the first place, if its not deleting the files...pls advise?

    b) to copy Mup.sys, but it takes a while for the new pc to detect my hddisk..will try it once it appear.

also, just got new tips to run chkdsk at the command prompt.will try dat , subsequently with action b) above, and will keep u updated about it. Thanks~ (",)

Hi jen_nashadi. Definitely yes, installing the OS using the recovery disk will delete all your precious files on your harddrive. I suggest not to try that one. Unless you have partitions on your Harddrive. Operating system will just focus on your main drive duirng installation and not other partitions.

Try working on copying the mup.sys file. This will really solved the issue.

Got an Acer 4050 from ebay and it goes straight to enter boot password

can you click on f12 before it goes to boot password?
The F12 Boot Menu allows you to choose which device that you would like to boot the computer's Operating System from by pressing the F12 key during the computer's Power On Self Test, or POST process. Some notebook and netbook models have the F12 Boot Menu disabled by default.
If this sounds like your problem then try this:
If this sounds like
To enable the F12 Boot Menu:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Press the F2 key to enter computer's BIOS Setup during Power-On Self-Test, or POST, process while the Acer logo is being displayed.
  3. Press the Right Arrow key to select Main
  4. Select F12 Boot Menu
  5. Press the Enter key
  6. Select Enabled
  7. Press the Enter key
  8. Press the F10 key and then press the Enter key to save the changes and restart the computer.
Note: Not all Acer notebooks or netbooks have the F12 Boot Menu feature. Computers that do not have the F12 Boot Menu feature will not be able to enable the feature within the BIOS. I hope this works for you if not, then the problem is obviously not the boot menu. Go to Acer support for more help

Order the Recovery Media from Acer

  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly to enter the computer's Boot Menu.
  3. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.
  4. Close the CD-ROM tray.
  5. Refer to on screen instructions to select either CDROM or USB CDROM.
  6. The computer will boot from the Acer Recovery Media
  7. When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.

Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first of the Recovery CDs.

  8. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.

Acer travelmate 3210

Acer Travelmate 3210 is the Series
and in that series your Laptop model is 3212NWXMI

like Acer Aspire 5300 is series and 5320 is the model number like that.

there was no need to update Bios
now in case your laptop is turning on
Please try to start in the Safe mode
and there you shut down your laptop properly and try Restarting in normal mode.
Secondly, If you are well versed with the technology then please
try to reinstall the Windows Xp

and BIOS update is something you should be very careful of.
do not try unless it is MOST required
