Just make sure that your printer is plugged into the wifi router in a normal ethernet port... then you should be able to find the printer in the printer dialog box..

    Oh..sorry about the techie lingo...
You said your printer was wireless from your computer... it does need to be wired into your network in one of your routers.. IF you are familiar with an Ethernet cable...the network cable. just make sure the network cable from your printer is connected to the wireless router.. then your Mac should be able to find your printer when you call up the print command.
If your mac and printer are using the same router wireless or wired... you should be able to connect them... also check in the network settings of the system prefences that your appletalk is turned on..
Let me know if you need further help....happy to do so!!

The dialog box says the printer is offline

Unplug the printer from the power. Turn off the computer and then restart the computer. Plug the printer back in. Let us know what it does.

Any number of things that could be causing this but things to try.
  1. Try plugging the printer into a new USB port (assuming you're using USB for connectivity
  2. Try a different connection cable
  3. Check the printer has not been accidentally marked as "Use offline" (WinXP: Right click on the printer icon and look for the relevant line)
  4. Check some joker hasn't set the "Printer Properties" > "Availability" time to limit access
  5. Check the Print Spooler service is running for your computer
Those are all reasonably common issues but usually it comes down to the cable or an OS setting.
Hope that helps, albeit a bit later than you'd hoped.

If i try to print, it says printer offline. it's turned on and plugged in, why can't i print from my computer? windows 7 if that helps with instructions

How are you connected to the printer? Is it a direct USB connection or a USB hub or print server?

If you are using a USB hub or print server, try a direct USB connection. (A cord of 6 feet in length or shorter is preferred.) Try a different USB port and a different cable. Make sure that both ends of the cable are well-seated. Next make sure that a known working USB device properly connects to the computer.

Next check if the USB ports are disabled due to errors, for security or power-savings. For the first check the device manager. Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager. Scroll down for the USB devices. If you see a red x or a yellow exclamation point in a triangle, try updating the drivers or enabling the USB devices. The third item is an advanced setting that you can access by right clicking on the desktop (anywhere there are no running programs or icons). Select Personalize > Screen Saver, next select change power settings. Then click the link to the Change the Plan settings. Then click the Change Advanced Power Settings link. Scroll down and check for when USB devices power down and adjust this setting.

If the above do not work, try uninstalling the printer, then remove the data cable. Reboot the computer and reinstall the printer from the CD or downloaded file from Canon. Connect the USB cable when prompted to do so.

I hope this helps.

Says that it offline. will do everything except print

There are only 2 reason when printer says offline.

Ist. When computer does not communicate to printer and this is happen because usb cable not plugged in from printer to computer properly or its loose. If use cable already plugged in properly and try to plug the usb cable in a different port in your computer and then restart the computer. and if you are using wireless printer and wireless connection on printer is disconnected then Run the wireless printer setup again by printer disk.

if issue still persist then follow step 2.

IInd. Go to Start>>printer and devices>>here you will have your printer>>right click on it from your mouse and left click on Use this printer online

My hp l5580 printers says offline when trying to print

Hi suesheerin63,

Kindly follow the steps below to address the offline message that you are getting from your printer:

1.If there's any pending document printing cancel those by right clicking on the printer's icon and select cancel. You ca also do this if not all documents were canceled: click on start >run > type services.msc , then look for print spooler. Restart the print spooler. Then go the printers page and press F5 twice to refresh the page.

2.Check if the correct port is selected (right click on the printers icon , click on properties , click on ports and see which port is selected:

USB connection should be - USB 001/ 002

WIRELESS should be - HP/TCP IP PORT with the ip address of the printer

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

HP psc2410 is 'offline'. How do I get it 'online'.

This depends on why it is reading offline. First check if the printer is on and if any error lights are on. A common issue is the printer was out of paper and after refilling the tray, the OK button was not pushed. Next check the cable, reseat both sides. Try a new cable, under 9 feet long. If you use a print server or USB hub, try a direct connection.

Make sure the USB ports work by trying a known good device. Check the device manager in case the USB ports need a driver update or were disabled for security (In Windows: Start > Control Panel > Hardware > Device Manager (exact placement may vary)). Check that the USB ports aren't sleeping in the Advanced Settings of the Screen Saver.

I hope this helps.

After a power outage, my Brother printer,

First off, make sure that you have turned both the printer and the computer off and then turn them on(cycle the power). When you go to the printer in 'printers' be sure that the printer is not light in color, if it is, then it's failed to come back online or it's broken. When you say, 'I have tried going into the control panel and clicking on print offline', I take you to mean 'print online', because you don't want to print offline, you want it online...

The easiest way to solve this is to move the usb plug going into the computer from the printer from one port to another, this will force the computer to re recognize the printer. I see that this printer has network capability. I am assuming, that the printer is connected via USB and not Ethernet. [USB, rectangle the size of your pinky, but narrow, Ethernet looks like a big phone plug]. If you move the plug from one USB slot to another and you don't hear the hardware connect sound(low tone then high tone), then your printer may be broken. It is possible if it is broken that the Ethernet port still works, but using that is beyond this discussion.

Good luck,

I can not print

You could try to use static ip to remove possible problems with dns retrieving:
  • Set the machine to static ip (Menu -> Network -> WLAN -> Boot Method -> Static).
  • Check the ip number on the machine (Menu -> Network -> WLAN -> IP address)
  • On your PC, go to Control Panel -> Printers
  • Right-click printer, choose Properties
  • Choose Ports and click "Add Port"
  • Double-click on Standard TCP/IP, follow the guide and type in your IP number earlier retrieved.
  • Save settings, press OK and the problem could be solved (if it was due to dns problems).
Also, if it works, you can change the network settings for scanner driver to go to ip address too instead of dns, even if it isn't a problem right now, it could later be.
