Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

Where Dell Flat screen 15" monitor has not been used for a period of time or on boot up the screen displays for a seond then goes black (although in a certain light you can see the icons and programs in use). If you switch the monitor off and back on again the display appears for a second and goes black again. If you complete this around 30 to 40 times then the display appears fully lit up. Throughout this time, where the monitor is switched on, the power button appears green

You most likely have a bad connection inside the unit. Specifically, there are a couple of "backlights" that provide the light that will pass thru the LCD panel. If you can open up the unit, with the screen facing up, there should be a small PC board on the right. Check the connections on that board. Be careful as there is high voltage there.

first of all check your monitor. it would be the best if you can plug some other monitor just to check... if your monitor is OK then probably you VGA is bad and you`ll have to change it.

Power drain

There is a lack of communication between the monitor and video card. Try reseating if add-on video card. Make sure monitor is set to correct input, like VGA (analog), DVI, HDMI, or Display Port. Try testing with another monitor.

may be this is you are mentioning there is no display in your monitor or u have already getting the boot display. if u getting the boot display it must be the problem of your monitor inverter board in side ur lcd. otherwise it must have your computer memory not working properly so u must clean and re install your memory first.thank you.

Monitor goes black after boot up. I see the screen normally, then it goes black although the power light stays green

It sounds like a driver conflict or software issue with the video card. Try booting to Safe Mode by hitting F8 during the boot sequence. Choose safe Mode with Networking to maintain your network connection. Safe mode loads a generic display driver and will allow you to troubleshoot any issues with your existing drivers and/or software.

Dell Dimension 3000 Video problem

There may be a problem with your windows installation. Search Google for Hirens boot CD, it is a free download and should contain a live XP installation. When you turn on the computer tap the appropriate button to reach the boot menu, then insert the CD and select your CD drive. Once booted it should display a live XP.
Alternatively you may have your monitor set to an incompatible resolution. If tapping F8 won't display the advanced boot menu then try finding an auto setup on your monitor or change the resolution using the monitors controls. If the advanced boot menu does display then select low resolution mode.
Hope this helps,

Error: Cannot Display This Video Mode

You may have to boot into safe mode and reset the video settings to a safe setting like 1024x768.

  1. To get into safe mode, continuously press F8 while the computer is booting up.
  2. Eventually you will get a Windows XP Boot Menu.
  3. Choose the option for Safe Mode.
  4. Go to Start, Control Panel and double-click Display.
  5. On the Settings tab, drag the slider bar to 1024x768.
  6. Click OK
  7. Shut down and reboot.
If the problem goes away, then you are good. Otherwise, you'll have to boot menu again (F8) and choose Enable VGA Mode.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

If tried the monitor on two other computers with the same result -- definitly your monitor is faulty. Take it to the repair shop. To make double sure, run your computer with another monitor. If everything is fine now; you can blame the monitor.

Dell e228wfp flat panel. periodically goes blank. when i power off the on promp " 1. Auto detect ( Analog signal )" is up . . . just for a moment then screen goes blank.

It's heat related and possibly a backlight issue - mine only does it when the monitor has been powered on for about 2 hours. If I turn it off for an hour, I can get another 2-hour stretch out of it. Happens in self-test mode, so that's the cruncher. It's taken 2 days and many laborious hours on the phone, but Dell is sending me a replacement monitor tomorrow. There are more people with the problem here: http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19245356.aspx. Hope you get yours replaced too...
