Question about Sharp Aquos LC-PD50U 50 in. Plasma Television

2 Answers

Luminous My 52 inch aquos experiences a shift in value from cut to cut. When the picture cuts to a darker scene the image will always fade darker immediately for about a second and if it cuts to a brighter scene it will fade brighter (not as noticeable). Could I have it on some obscure setting that I can fix? It is really annoying. thanks for any help Jay@pactitle.com

I'll give it a shot and see what happens tonight. Is this a common problem?
How often should I be resetting the codes?

    thanks

HI,

The control system has gone bad. Try a hard reset and see if that will cure it.

Unplug the power cord for 4 hours or more. Then try it again. This will reset the internal operational codes to the factory default settings.

If this doesn't help then the only solution to fix this problem is to get it repaired.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution as fixya.

You should do the hard reset only once.If that makes any difference then give it another try.If this helps you fix your problem then no need to call a tech.

And if doesn't fix then im sad to say that you will have too call the tech and get it serviced.

My 50 inch plasma tv the color and brightess is gone

Hello,

This means you have lost the luminance input to the chroma decoder or final video chip. A failure of the brightness limiter may result in similar symptoms.

A few common causes are:

Check the service switch (if any). Its contacts may be dirty and moving it back and forth a few times or using contact cleaner may be all that is needed.

Check for open high value resistors around the chroma decoder IC.

Check for open high value resistors in the brightness limiter circuit.

With a scope and schematic (or even just a pinout for the chip), you should be able to trace the luminance signal to see where it is getting lost.

I have had several TVs and monitors where the delay line in the luminance circuitry has failed. Usually it's made out of glass, and inherently is fragile. Sometimes whacking the monitor would make it come back, leading to the thought of connectoritis or a cold solder joint -- where in fact it was the delay line (long rectangular unit with two to four leads). Replacing the delay line was the solution, but to check it first it'd be a good idea to look for 'in' and 'out' on the line and short the pins. The picture may be shifted, colours may not line up, but it'll tell you that it's the delay line if the picture comes back at all. It's better than looking at a saturated picture with no luminance! :)

Is the power light staying on or does that go out as well?
If the power light stays on and if you darken the room, can you see a faint image still on the screen by shining a flashlight at it (close). If there is a faint image it is either the inverter or the backlight tube.

Sony bravia dims randomly

There should be a setting in the menu of the TV to turn off the auto dim feature (used for adjusting the brightness of the picture depending on ambient room lighting) I don't have a Sony LCD here with me to walk you through the menu settings, but I am certain it is there somewhere. (Chased this issue for the wife who had the same displeasure you're having)

Hi

This sounds like the tube is losing power. The luminance circuit, the B+ or possibly the Flyback.

Pictures are underexposed

When you are photographing scenes with mostly light objects (for example, snow, water, and sand), the picture is usually underexposed (darker than it really is). The camera meter registers the brightness of the scene and tries to set the camera lens and aperture for an exposure based on average brightness levels (18% reflectance) causing it to underexpose, as in the following picture. When you are photographing scenes with mostly dark objects (for example, shade, shadow, and overcast skies), and very few light objects, the camera may overexpose the image, causing it to be too light. If you have a flash on your camera, you can compensate by adding "fill flash" for some extra light. If your camera has an exposure compensation adjustment, you can increase or decrease the exposure to correct for these exposure problems. Increase the number to make the image lighter, and decrease the number to make the image darker. You may want to try a series of shots with different exposure compensation adjustments to get a feel for how much difference these adjustments make.
