Setting up wii for netflix

Netflix Instant is available for streaming on your Wii gaming console by early spring 2010. If you have a Netflix subscription you can watch movies and episodes easily on your TV through your Wii console. This article will detail the important things you will need to make sure that you can watch Netflix from the Wii.
Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need

  • Netflix subscription
  • Nintendo Wii gaming console
  • Broadband internet
    • 1 Check you Netflix subscription. The minimum subscription plan to watch Netflix instantly is the unlimited 1 DVD at a time plan or otherwise the $8.99 plan. This plan allows to watch movies instantly with unlimited monthly hours.
    • 2 Check internet bandwidth on your broadband connection. According to Netflix the minimum bandwidth requirement is 1.5Mbps. Netflix recommends for watching movies instantly a 3.0Mbps connection. Check with your internet service provider to confirm that these download speeds.
    • 3 A wired connection to your Wii console. An ethernet connection to your Wii console would be preferable. Unfortunately the Wii console does not have an ethernet port but a USB port. A USB LAN Adapter can be found at most computer supply merchants or online from Wii or Amazon.com. The ethernet connection is an ethernet wire from your home LAN router connected to your USB LAN adapter. The USB LAN adapter is then connected to the USB port on the Wii console. This connection will be how Netflix provides the movie streaming feed to the Wii.
    • 4 Sign up at the Netflix website for the Streaming Disc. Netflix will send a specially programmed disc to setup the Wii for watching the movies. When the disc arrives Netflix will provide instructions on how to install onto the Wii gaming console.

I am want to connect my Cricket broadband up to my Wii console

Hi Angela

The Nintendo Wii is set up to accept wireless internet.

If your broadband is set up to a wireless router, the Wii can easily connect to the internet.

Let me know if you are set up with wireless and I can give you directions to connect your Wii.

Is it not possible to use cricket on the wii?

From what I understand, having Cricket myself, no. Cricket is not compatable with any type of routing, and can only be used in the computer it is plugged into. I was hoping to get a USB capable router to plug my Cricket into and then connect the wii that way, and was told by Cricket it was impossible

I have mobile broadband with 3 on usb stick can my wii connect to internet with this

No the 3 dongle requires you to be able to physically dial up the connection in order to connect. There is no function for this on the wii so you'll have to use either a wireless network nearby or get broadband down a phone line.

Connecting my wii to the internet

to connect your wii to the internet connect to the following link or read the following instructions
http://systemsetup.nintendo.com.au/Connecting_Online

to connect your wii to the internet you will need to provide a wireless internet access point for it to find. you will need:

a computer connected to broadband internet
a wireless router OR Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector OR Wii LAN Adapter
your wii console to be nearby all of the above

If you are using the LAN Adapter you must plug the USB connection into the back of your wii console and the other end to your internet modems ethernet port. (follow steps below)

if you are using a wireless connection follow steps below.

Turn on your wii and on the main menu select 'wii' in the bottom left hand corner
On the next screen, select 'wii settings'
In the 'Wii System Settings', click on the blue arrow on the right to reach the second screen of options. On this screen, click the 'Internet' button.
Select 'connection settings'
select an open connection indicated by 'none'
select the corresponding option, Wired or Wireless connection

Wired:
(follow steps below)

Wireless:
Select the corresponding option, Search for an access point or Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector
the wii will search for an access point, select the access point you wish to connect to, and save the settings

The wii will now do a test connection and do a system update, the wii will now use that connection point to acces the online services

hope i helped!!

You need to go into Wii settings (use the home button on the Wiimote) and enter your wireless key. You should be able to find this key (a string of letters and numbers) on the bottom of your wireless router.
