Dlink DGL-4300 Internal Error?

Well I'm trying to configure my router for optimal efficiency. I keep getting this when i click on one of the pages, such as Basic, Advance, Tools, Status, Help.

An error occurred on this page. This might be because you are
not properly logged in, for example just after a reboot.
Press OK to go to the login page, or Cancel if you want to see
the error message.

If I press Ok I go back into the login page and well login again and you guessed it, get the same message.

Or I can cancel and then get this message...

The error on line 109 of http://192.168.0.1/gateway.js is:
"missing ; before statement".

Which then I can press ok and am still able to configure its settings.

So far I can be patient and work around this but it does get really annoying.

Things I've tried
1. Updated to latest firmware, which is 1.9.
2. Resetted the router multiply times to its factory settings.
3. Looked online for this error with no luck.

Can anyone explain to me if this is an internal problem with my router, or computer?

I really like my Dlink and have no problems until recently, also I have set up static IP's on my three computers and have reserved them on the routers DHCP reservation list. I also have port forwarded certain programs which take up bandwidth.

Can you try accessing the router's settings from another computer on your network? Does it give you the same error?

  • astroreverb9 May 31, 2010

This error is from working through a windows xp pro machine.

I also have tried it on a windows 7 machine and get the same error, but interestingly enough I do not get this error on my MAC laptop. Maybe it just doesn't pick it up?

I can still work in the router if I close the windows instead of pressing ok. But its just repetitive.

I have disconnected completely and turned off everything, and connected everything again one plug at a time, about 4 times. In the correct order. I'm just trying to set up a home network. Basically I'm connecting three computers, 2 windows, 1 tiger OSX, to a router; trying to share a single bandwidth connection in the most efficient way. This is all wired by the way, I prefer it (Faster). I have already set up static IP's on each of them, added those IP's to my routers DHCP reservation list, and port forwarded any programs which use my bandwidth.
Yes I know what I'm doing up to there, but don't understand the error. I could post pics maybe?

I was thinking of downgrading my firmware and maybe re upgrading to see if there is a difference.

Look at your DHCP reservation list.

Remove any apostrophes in names on that list.

Like this -> mom's_pc
change it to -> moms_pc

IT WORKED FOR ME RIGHT AWAY

I found this answer on a D-Link bulletin board, applied the solution, and didn't even need to reboot.

Changing the firmware is the the next thing I would try, too. It sounds like it's definitely something going on with the router itself, so if it's not the software it's gotta be the hardware.

How do i change my mtu settinggs

To change the MTU rate on your router follow the steps below:
Open your browser, enter the IP address of your router (192.168.0.1) and click OK.
Enter your username (admin) and password (blank by default).
Click OK to enter the web configuration page for the device.
Click on Setup and then click Manual Configure.
To change the MTU enter the number in the MTU field and click Save Settings.
If changing the MTU does not resolve the problem, continue changing the MTU in increments of ten.

1500 is the default MTU for Dynamic (DHCP) Cable (p. 20 in user manual).
1492 is the default MTU for PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) DSL (p. 22 in user manual).
Other MTU settings are listed in the manual, simply do a search for "MTU".

Note: AOL DSL+ users must use MTU of 1400.

To find the proper MTU Size, you'll have to do a special ping of the destination you're trying to go to. A destination could
be another computer, or a URL (p. 86 in user manual).

I'm just looking to update the DGL-3420 and update my DGL-4300 router (they were not in use for the past year) having some connection issues

DGL-3420 Firmware & DGL-4300 Firmware
Please visit the above links from DLink Official Support for your products. Firmware updates, Manuals, trouble-shootong guides etc are available. If you are experiencing connection issues, i would suggest that review the router settings before going for firmware updates. Most of the times the connection issues are due to settings only.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

My d link dlg400 router won't issue it's own

The default IP address for this router is 192.168.0.1. Try that. If it is assigning ip addresses to your computer, you can check under status of network connections by right clicking the lan connection, left-clicking status, then click the support tab. The IP address listed next to gateway should be your routers IP address.

I'm trying to set up a VPN connection on a cisco 857, and have been unsuccessful so far. Any ideas?

John,
Give this a try. Log into Admin on the DGL-4300. Click the Advanced tab at the top, then the Firewall tab on the left. In the Application Level Gateway (ALG) Configuration section at the bottom, you will see a check-box called IPSec (VPN). If you don't see this check-box, you will need to upgrade the firmware on your DGL-4300. If you have this box, it will almost surely be checked, which is the problem. Un-check it! It will say that it needs to reboot the router. Do it and that should fix your problem -- it did for me. Regards, Joe

Glad to hear the new one is working (it's likely or at least possible, that the old one is simply mis-configured - resetting back to it's factory defaults and starting from scratch should help with the bridging issue)
