Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3 Full Version OEM for PC

1 Answer

Windows XP SP3 stops responding

I recently pulled down my main computer to clean it out and replace the thermal material on the processor (was running above 80 C). I had problems with programs becoming unresponsive and thought this would help.
It did help the system run better. I can 3D game again and get pre-problem Frame Rates. However, it still shows an issue with responding after being up for about an hour. In Google Chrome, it will let me open a new tab but won't let me navigate using it. I type in an address and it stays on the same page. I can still surf on any tabs that were already open. It sometimes opens and displays pages opened from within tabs that were already open. When I try to close Chrome, it hangs. Opening Task Manager to close Chrome causes Task Manager to stop responding also.
The problem is not limited to Chrome. I've gotten it in Hoyle Card games, MS Word, etc... The system then stops opening new programs and eventually locks up completely.
Anyone experienced this before, and better, know how to fix it?

Into safe mode. Running for 4 hrs with none of the described problems. Obviously a service or startup file error. Now to diagnose and fix.

Problem resolved. Turns out the Real Time protection for Microsoft Security Essentials is what was clogging thing s up. I happened to end the task today and everything freed up. Programs that I had clicked an hour earlier started to suddenly open. Go figure. I guess if the thing keeps you from using your computer, it really is Secure!

Possible virus, corrupted files and registry. Try rebooting in safemode with network, if all works ok, then you have registry or virus problem; try scanning for virus and registry errors. If the problem insist in safemode, then you have corrupted system file and you will have to reinstall Windows.

You can download the latest version (sp3 2011) of windows xp from this link:

http://www.world4free.in/2011/02/windows-xp-sp3-2011-v-1102-full.html

After downloading, place a plane CD in the CD/DVD writer and then double click the downloaded file. Now the burning process will begin. After burning is successfully completed, you can use this CD as your boot disc. Follow the installation procedure as usual.

Hope this one solved your problem. If you have additional doubts, please come back to us.

I open Portrait Professional Studio v9.8 and as soon as it open windows vista home premium states the program has stop responding and shuts down. I have used it in the past with no problems but cannot...

windows vista is known for having problem rendering graphics (its the reason win7 was released just one year after vista) try right clicking the program icon and selecting properties. Then tell the system to run the program in win xp sp3 compatibility mode. If still nothing, then you should seriously consider upgrading to win7 to stop the 1k+ bugs and holes that are in vista from eating your hard drive and graphics processor up.
GOOD LUCK AND PLEASE RATE THIS POST!!!

Switching on but only stays on for a couple of seconds before going blank. If switched off and on it will come on but only stay on for 2/3 second,

Most of the time, owners never clean out the inside of their desktop computer, nor have it done.

Hardware components inside the computer, need a steady supply of air rushing over them, to keep their temperature down. The main hardware component that requires this, is the Processor. If the processor becomes too hot, it is turned off. (BIOS program turns it off)

Without the processor running, there is no computer.

The processor has a Heatsink, and Fan, (Sitting on top of the heatsink), to draw away the heat given off by the processor.
The heatsink is a finned piece of metal, attached to a metal base.

As heat is given off from the processor, it is drawn into the base of the heatsink, and radiated out by the fins.
If the fins become clogged with dust, dirt, hair, and other foreign material, the cooling capacity of the cooling system, drops tremendously.

If the fan blades, center hub, and outside cage of the fan, become clogged with foreign material, the cooling capacity drops termendously.

This in turn, allows the processor to heat up beyond it's thermal operating range, and the processor is turned off. This is a Fail Safe option that is built-in, to keep the processor from burning up.

This is also why it is imperative to keep the heatsink, and fan clean.
Solution for this is to remove power to the computer, (Unplug the computer from surge protector), open the computer case, and use a can of compressed air for computers

There is a Thermal Paste compound in-between the Heatsink, and the Processor. This could have dried up.
The bottom of a Heatsink, and the top pf a Processor have rough surfaces. This cannot be seen readily by the Human eye, but can under magnification.

When the two surfaces, (Heatsink bottom, and Processor top), are mated together, there are Air pockets in-between them, or Voids.
The Thermal Paste fills these voids, and allows better heat transference.
Solution for this is to remove the old thermal compound, and apply fresh thermal compound, (Paste)

The rest of the inside of the computer, needs to be kept clean also. Dust and dirt, are 'magnets' for static electricity. Static will fry out delicate computer hardware components. (Can of compressed air for computers)

Also the Power Supply. The Power Supply has it's own fan to keep it cool, and this fan's blades, center hub, and outside cage, need to be clean. The inside of the Power Supply should be clean also. There are heatsinks inside a personal computer power supply.
(Can of compressed air for computers)

The Dell Dimension 2400 has been around for quite a while, in computer rated time. Came out in 2004.
If this is the original power supply, the power supply could be bad.

Electroytic Capacitors may have gone bad. Rectifier bridge, and also IC's.
Solution is to replace the power supply.

Windows explorer not initiated at startup and hangs the system,

I had this XP problem with Norton recent after SP3 got on.
Clean install and no antivirus, straight afterwards a bootable CD with SP3 then I replace already removed Norton with Avast virus scanner.
Superfast, all problems I ever had gone. Likely the scanner.

Toshiba Laptop A55-S306 shuts down with error messages

It sounds to me like a virus. Boot up from a recover cd or windows cd and reinstall freashly.

If you don't have a recovery cd, contact Toshiba for one. They go around for $40 to $50. If you can't get one, buy Windows Vista and boot up from that and reinstall.
