Question about Canon Optura 40 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
I have been doing a school project with a camcorder and when I went to import the footage to Windows Live Movie Maker, my Canon Optura 40 was showing up under devices. The camera is on VCR/Play Mode and is still unreadable with the firewire. I have Windows 7. Do I need to download a drive or do I need to have the software (which I can't find)? Please help!
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Hi, still pictures being in digital format would be downloadable to the computer straight from the camera. Video footages in tape is analog and cannot be dowloaded. You would need a video capture device. It is an interface device that sits between your tape player/camera and your computer. Normally would have a video input either in RCA (yellow) or S connector and provision to connector to your computer (USB, firewire). Also provision for audio (white/red) connection or straight to the line/aux input of your computer. You then have to run the accompanying software to capture the movie while it is playing in realtime in the camera. If the video footages are saved in a memory stick, flashcard or some other digital format, then it is directly readable/downloadable from the camera to your computer. Hope this be of some help. Regards.

It should work well with Apple iMovie that came with your mac. There is a new version (imovie 09) that is said to be a major improvement over imovie 08 (the version that likely came with your computer). It is part of the iLife suite of multimedia Apple software. Available for $79 from the apple store. Here's a link to the store page. Buy now
