These fans do not have a standard color code for the fan switch. What you can do is turn off the power, keep the white neutral connected. Then using the black power wire take one of the switch wires and connect to that black, turn the power on and observe the speed .. low mark it 1, medium mark it 2, high mark it 3. Repeat untill you have identified all the speed wires. Then connect these wires to the 1,2,3, terminations of your new switch

Fan Switch Change out

Should have written that down when you took out the old one. Anyway, just because a switch looks the same on the outside doesn't mean it's the same on the inside. If you don't find the correct switch let me know. I need to know how many wires on your capacitor And which wire went into which switch opening. usually the black goes into the L.

Putting back the fan switch cord in fan.

It is probably broke. Just call the customer service number and they will send you a new switch. Take not of the wire positions when you take the old one apart. You can get the wires out by putting a very tiny screwdriver in next to the wire. It will release it. NOT ALL SWITCHES ARE THE SAME!!!! Some are single layer and some are not!!. I think you can tell by the body color of the switch. Red and Black, Grey and Black, ETC. I figured this out after buying 3 of the wrong switches. Each one hooks up a little different. If it is an aloha brand fan like sold at WalMart it is a common issue. Just call there 800 number and they will send you a new one. You have to know the exact model number of have the bar code. Usually there is a bar code on top of the motor. Just take it down from the ceiling and look. I called them on Thursday and got a free switch and capacitor on Monday!! My fan is going great again. If you have the old switch check it or just call the fan's customer service!!
Just call 1-800-295-4448. Even the call is free.

Wiring

The tan is probably a worn white, age will turn it that color. Since you don't have separate switches for the light and fan, then the black (hot for fan) and blue (hot for light kit) go twisted together and hooked to the black from the box in ceiling with a wire nut. The white goes to the other white, it's the neutral wire in the schematic, which if you took apart your breaker box, is attached to the grounding clamp. There should be a green wire that will attach to the extension pole right at the ball on a ball and socket mounting or the motor casing on a flush mount. This should be attached to the green or bare wire coming out of ceiling box. Hope this helps.
