christoph972, This really sounds like a SMPS going into SHUTDOWN MODE after detecting a fault in the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" electronic ballast circuit which is called an INVERTER CIRCUIT, or it has a problem all by itself. The big question is? ? ? WHAT is causing the fault? I need you to do the flashlight test to evaluate the condition of the LCD monitor's "switch-mode-power-supply". With a KNOWN-GOOD, fully booted pc that has the WIN-desktop showing, reconnect the S760 to the pc. then and only then push the "ON" button for the monitor and note what happens. After the screen goes black, shine a bright flashlight at different angles about 1" from the LCD screen. Get back to me with the results of test. Did you see or not see the WIN-DESKTOP? Also visit YOUTUBE and search for and view videos of typical lcd monitor disassembly and or lcd repair. FYI only!! The longer ones (8-12min) will be more informative. The symptom you have with this freebie monitor is classic! It could possibily be repaired for $12 or less. Get back to me here at fixya by posting another comment to the above stuff you already did. The machine is overheating and the graphics chip on the main board is acting up cause of it. Make sure there is no dust or dirt blocking the air vents that would cause the system to heat up more then normal.
If that doesn't do it then maybe think about getting a cooler for the system, here is a website that talks about a few of them. Click here.
If that doesn't help then your mainboard is going bad and would need to be replaced.
Good morning! possible that there is a loose/cold soldered electronic part/s inside your monitor. I suggest to get assistance from a professional service electronic techinician for proper identification of defective part/s & fix it. best regards
This is the classic symptom of a CRT (picture tube)that is starting do get weak. The picture takes longer and longer to come on, it appears greenish and blurry, and it blinks on and off in different scenes, and when it is off the timer LED blinks 5 times. Sony has a circuit called "IK Blanking" which monitors and adjusts the colors in the picture tube, and shuts the picture off when the tube is getting too weak. The good news is that the Sony tubes always respond beautifully to a CRT rejuvination (recharge), and the picture returns to perfect. Since the set is 36 inches and VERY heavy, it should be serviced in-house and an appropriate charge for a service call for your set should be around $150.
