Step 1:
Apple's iPod Touch comes with a screen lock feature that allows you to set a four-digit security code to prevent others from using your iPod. Every time the iPod locks, you must enter this code to unlock the screen and access the user interface. Entering the wrong code too many times, or simply forgetting your security code, can cause you to be completely locked out. When this happens, you can quickly unlock your iPod Touch.

Connect your iPod Touch to the computer you usually sync it with. When you disconnect your iPod, it should now be unlocked. If Step 1 does not work, you have to restore your iPod Touch. Be advised that restoring your iPod Touch returns it to the original factory settings. This means that all your songs and files will be deleted and lost. You can resync your files to your iPod from iTunes once you have finished restoration. Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes before proceeding. In the left navigation panel in iTunes, select your iPod under the "Devices" section. Click the "Summary" tab and select "Restore." When iTunes prompts you about backing up your data, click "Back Up." In the following window, click "Restore." After the restore process completes, you will see the Apple logo on the screen of your iPod. Leave your iPod connected to your computer until it shows up again on the iTunes navigation panel. Your iPod touch is now unlocked. In iTunes you will be able to setup your iPod. Select the backup you made in the drop-down menu to restore your data files. I have an ipod touch 8gb that is disabled. it belongs to my daughters friend and i am trying to enable it. she lost the password

You can reset it using iTunes. Open iTunes, plug the iPod in using USB, then turn of the iPod, once it's off hold down the home and lock buttons for 10 seconds, then release the lock button while continuing to hold the home button. After a few seconds iTunes should detect the iPod. Then you should be able to restore the iPod without the code.

Double Problems...

this problem happens when you try connecting a ipod to a new Itunes. If you know the lock code you can remove it temporarily until you have it connected and authorized for that computer then you can apply a lock code to it again. the lock code can be removed by going to the settings icon then general option and turning off the passcode lock. then plug into your computer and Itunes will start and go and authorize that computer then all should be good.

Sadly, the ONLY way to unlock any iPod without the password is to restore it using iTunes. Below I have posted a step by step on restoring your dads new iPod touch. I hope that is easy to follow and very informative. Please remember to rate experts here (good or bad) we need the feed back. :)

Using the Restore function for your iPod touch is part of standard troubleshooting procedure. Restoring your device will erase all data from your iPod touch, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other data. All of the iPod touch settings are restored to their factory condition.
Use the following steps to restore your iPod touch:
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed and running before attempting to update. Connect your iPod touch to your computer. Select your iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices. Select the Summary tab. Select the Restore option. When prompted to back up your iPod touch's settings before restoring, select the Back Up option. If have just backed up the device, it is not necessary to create another.
Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you
Once the restore process has completed the iPod touch restarts and displays the Apple logo while starting up
