Question about Frigidaire 26.0 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Thru-the-Door Ice and Water - Black

The compressor doesn't turn on.

You hear the compressor hum like it's trying to start and then will kick out. This has happened off and on for a while. Every week or so it will do this and then everything will run fine. Yesterday it finally died. I've taken off the back cover and and cleaned the coils and compressor to no avail. All my food is sitting in coolers and I am wondering it I will have to buy a new frig. It is only 7 yrs. old. The compressor was hot when it quit. I unplugged it and I am planning to give it another try in a few hrs when it cools off.

Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezerThe compressor doesn't turn on. - 2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

I would suggest replaceing the overload / relay which is plugged onto the side of the compressor . Take your complete model number or the part with you to a part house so you get the correct part . It is easily replaceable and inexpensive .

Problem with GE Refrigerator (GTS18SHSVRSS) -- Doesn't run. Power seems to be getting in (inside lights turn on and we can hear a faint humming sound), but the fan/condenser doesn't seem to be...

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.

Sounds like the cold control has stuck . Unplug the two wires from the cold control and plug them together. Turn one wire over and plug it into the other. away from the cold control.
The cold control is the knob in the ref that turns it on and off and has numbers on it. (Thermostat)
If it runs then that cold control (Thernostat) is the problem.
If that doesn't work DO THIS:
The relay on the compressor may need replaced
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
Thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
also try hooking the two wires together on the cold control to route around the cold control.

I have a goodman gsc13 ac unit about 4 year old. When the temp gets around 90 or above outside the fan on the unit starts but the compressor does not. I had service check it out but that day they were...

It sounds like the unit may be over charged. Make sure the outside coils are clean and you have plenty of airflow coming out of the top of the outside unit. What could be happening is, when the temps get higher outside, so do the pressures in the system. The compressor has a thermal overload protection that will kick the compressor off if it gets to hot, which if the compressor is over charged, it will work twice as hard, over heat and shut off. You would need a technician to come out and get the refrigerant charge back to normal. Another thing that could be happening is a weak or faulty capacitor, which is a small round or oval metal object, found in the electrical compartment on the unit. This are fairly simple to change out if your comfortable with electric. I've also had to put what's called a hard start kit on compressors with the same problem, new and old. The hard start basically gives it that extra boost of power to get it up and going. I would start with the refrigerant charge and go from there. The electrical "humming" sound that you hear unless you turn the breaker to the furnace off, is the contactor on the outside unit having a call for cooling. The 24 volts come from the furnace, to the outside unit, and pulls the contactor in to power the unit with the 220 volts supplied. It is normal and you don't have to worry about that at all. I hope some of this helps and good luck!

We just put it in the window and turned it on for the first time this year and it doesn't cool. It seems to be kicking in, but not cooling.

Hi, try washing out the coil out side, condenser coil. It may be very dirty. If this doesn't do it, make sure you hear the compressor humming when its on. If its on and not cooling well or at all, you have lost the freon charge during storage. This does happen. The thing about window units, is there is no way to charge them. A few have valves but most have to have a saddle piercing valve installed to do this, and take a tech to do it. If cleaning the coil does not do it, and compressor is on, this is all it could be. If its an older unit, you may think about up grading rather then calling out someone, as they can cost you much $$$$. I hope this has helped you. I know its bad news, but I'm being truthful.

Compressor initially starts up and fills tank to 120 psi with no problem. Compressor shuts off. When a tool is used the compressor tries to kick back on but hums and won't turn pump. If the "off"...

There is a small valve on the pressure switch that should relieve the pressure between the compressor and tank check valve. Make sure when pressure switch trips, it engages the relief valve and it bleeds the air out. Sometimes the valve itself comes loose and is not engaged by the lever in the pressure switch.

Unit runs for about 5 min the cuts off. whats the problem?

Hi!!
It could be many things, the most common are Low R22 refrigerant, bad fan motor, bad compressor. obstructed condenser coil, bad starting relay, bad capacitor. among other things.
To check fan motor, set unit to HI Fan Only setting and let it run for a while, check that fan did not loose speed and it is not getting too hot.
If fan is OK, then turn unit to HI Cool 60-65 degrees and see what happens. Hear if compressor kicked in or if just made a humming noise and stopped. if this happens, replace capacitor.

It sounds like your unit is low on freon or the compressor is not kicking in. If the compressor kicks in you can hear it turn the unit on fan only or turn the thermostat off then turn the unit to demand cool you should hear a hum even vibration when the unit kicks in. If there is no audible hum ect... your compressor is probably not kicking in. The selector switch the temp switch the capacitor for the compressor or the compressor its self could be bad. good luck if you need to know how to test any of the above let us know

RV A/C blower not working and keeps kicking out

If blower not working, and yoou hear a slight "Hum" with fan only on, try this. With power off to AC. Go up on roof, and slide a stick through opening on side near rear, and try to get to fan blades at rear of unit. try to spin the blades a few times, even if it only goes a little at a time. Unless you want to take all those screws out & remove cover to get at it better, but watch for wasps under there. Give fan a couple of full rotations, then have someone turn it on to fan only & see what happens. If fan finally works, let it run for a few minutes on fan, then try cool & see if it all comes together again. Let me know.
