SOURCE: Propane patio heater ignition problem

I would change the thermocouple and here is why:

The thermocouple is the pilot's, well, co-pilot! It is the electronic device that senses if the pilot flame is hot enough to sustain burning the gas fuel from the burner. If the thermocouple thinks it's safe, then it keeps open the main gas valve located in the pilot assembly. If the thermocouple does not sense enough heat from the pilot flame (such as when the pilot is out), then the thermocouple shuts off the gas valve to the burners.
How the Thermocouple Works
So what is this thing and how does it work? Well the thermocouple (technically called a thermocouple junction) is a device that contains two metal wires welded at the ends and placed inside a protective metal case. The thermocouple sensor is found at the business end of the pilot flame and is designed to be placed in the hottest part of the flame. The other end is connected to the pilot valve body. As the thermocouple heats up, it produces a small amount of electricity and when it gets hot enough from the pilot, send a signal to open the gas valve by using a solenoid operated by a 24 volt transformer. The thermocouple calls the shots, and by converting heat to an electrical signal, it allows the gas valve to open or close. Once the gas valve is open, gas is then constantly supplied to the pilot and as required for the gas burners (as called for by the thermostat). If the pilot goes out, then the thermocouple gets cold and produces no electric signal to open the gas valve's solenoid and the gas valve shuts off the gas supply to the pilot and burners

SOURCE: My raypak rp2100 electronic seems to light the

It is probably something much more simple than that...Turn it on and stand back until it finally ignites, then look, using a mirror, at the burner tray from below. You will probably find a lot of the tubes, especially those near the pilot area, are not working or are burning bright orange. If that is the case, something, probably spiders, are blocking the gas from getting into the tubes. That will cause the big burst at ignition as the gas builds up for a bit before it finally reaches the pilot area.

SOURCE: Service light comes on our Raypak RP 2100 pool heater.

this usually indicates a high limit must first ascertain if you have a component failure or a true high tempature condition.your model has 2 limit controls and they are both located in side panel on water in/out header

Pilot light will not ignite water heater

the pilot light serves to purposes. it is the source of ignition for the main burner and is a safety device that detects wether there is a flame or not. if the pilot light stays on when you stop pressing the pilot light button then you need to turn the knob to the on position to light the main burner. the pilot light is not the on position. if the pilot light goes out when you stop pressing the pilot light button then the thermocouple or flame sensor needs replacing. good luck

The pilot light will light but not the burner. What might be the problem?

With the pilot light lit we know that your gas is ok and the pilot valve system works. To get the burner to light there are more things to go wrong . What must happen before the burner lights is a number of safety devices and other devices must work right. Here is a general list.

1. The temperature set point must be set higher than the water temperature.
2. There must be enough flow and possibly pressure.
3. There must be AC power.
4. The temperature safety switch must be closed.
5. Any remote switch must be on such as a switch in the timer.

If you have a schematic, a volt/ohm meter and some debugging experience you may be able to figure this out yourself. If not, I recommend you get a volt/ohm meter and call the Raypak technicalsupport at 800-947-2975 or 800-627-2975. They they should be able to help youfigure this issue out. I hope this helps.

Pilot stays lit, but the burner will not light

You may need to replace the pilot assembly. Or maybe the gas valve.
Their two stages to the valve and the pilot generates two hundered milivolts (less than a quater of a volt) to open the pilot valve but it takes at least another three hundered or more to open the main half of the valve, You need to have a milivolt meter to check.

Raypak boiler nat gas for domestic hot water model W2-0514BEARDAA or 334-056197 having problem with no gas to gas valve, trying to diagnose gas selenoid valve that is pre-gas valve. Pilot lights but...

Guessing you have a milivolt heater. While your pilot will light when you push the pilot light button down you need to generate 200mv to open the selenoid for the pilot and another 300mv for the main valve. This can be checked by removeing the leads from the pilot generator (wires from the pilot), Push the pilot button down and hold in place (a small screwdriver wedged in becide the button will do this) Then check the milivolt reading from the generator. This reading should be between 500 and 700mv (1/2 to 3/4 of a volt) If you don't have this your pilot generator is bad.
If you do then you need to hook the leads back up to the valve and unhook the saftey circut leads and try to light the pilot again. If the pilot still won't light your gas valve is bad. If it does then you have a problem in your saftey circut and you will need to check each item in the circut by removing and jumping past.
This would be more in line with just the main side of the valve not opening. So I'm sure you will find it to be the pilot generator or the valve being bad. As I stated before this system only runs on 1/2 a volt so all connections need to be clean and tight also. Could be other problems but this should cover the common reasons. Good luck.

Versa model#055b The piolet light is on but the burner will not fire. I can get it to fire by jumping the a&b terminals,

You need to start by hooking to one terminal and folowing the wire to each componenent on the line the problem will be with the one that fires the heater. You will need to look further once you find the component. For example if you find the pressure switch to be the problem it may be a dirty basket or a rusted water header or just a bad switch. So each component will only be a symptom. Good luck.
