I'm sure this is a problem for most. HP Pavilion dv9205us starts up, fan engages, Led's light up, drive attempts small start, but stops and after 15 to 20 seconds shuts down with a 1 second flash...

Hello.

Could be a power issue.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

Will not boot up, screen is blank power light comes on for a few second, then turns off

Either your DC jack is bad the motherboard is bad or the power supply is bad. The DC jack on that one is NOT soldered in and fairly easy to replace if you know how to tear it down. Toshiba uses a clip in clip on DC jack instead of soldering them to the board. Start by ohming out the power supply make sure its placing out the correct amperage. Thibk its around 1.58 amp at 19volts. You can see 4 sure looking at the label on it. If its good I would take it to a qualified shop to have the DC jack and board tested to see which is causing your power issue. The average replacement laptop board is $285 not including labor. DC jacks run about $5 but the labor should run around $100

You may have power supply DC filter caps problem or the back light inverter circuits, need to inspect the inside.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The TV cuts off frequently. The screen is blank & no sound.

It is probable you have a poor soldered connection on the power supply board, hence the erratic timing of the TV going on & off. If you are competent with a soldering iron look for dry jointed soldering on the board. If not have a service engineer take a look at it for you.

Hello Robert,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.
