Screen not lighting up on my hp pavilion

Try on an external monitor, if it works ok, you can rule out the graphics chip problem
If it does boot to an external monitor, the screen backlight / inverter has died and needs replacing

If it does not boot to an external monitor, the graphics (nvidia) chip has done the famous DV series trick of unsoldering itself and will need professionally reballed

Using notebook display and external monitor: HP Pavilion zd8205us primary display is garbled, secondary display is clear and good, It doesn't matter which display device you set as primary or secondary

try to switch the blue VGA cable that is connected from the laptop to the external monitor. You may also restart your laptop and set aside the external monitor to check if the laptop is still experiencing garbled display... If it still is, then it is a monitor issue and need to address to HP personnel by calling HP hotline. Otherwise your issue will be resolved by simply doing that..

Hp pavilion ze5500 display monitor still doesn't work

IT could be a motherboard problem with the function key that controls the switching of the video infomation between the LCD screen and the external video connector.
It could be the function key circuitry on the motherboard that controls the back lighting levels on the LCD.
