Power off the xbox 360. Hold down the sync button and power on the unit, don’t release the sync button until it’s loaded all the way to the dashboard.
or
Press the following key combination

Left Trigger, Right Trigger, X, Y, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, Up, Left Bumper, Left Bumper, X

This should give you a dialogue asking whether or not you want to reset your system to factory default settings.

It sounds like you've refused an Xbox Live Update at some point.
You can go into your system options and see if there's an update available.
To check for an update on the Xbox 360 you basically force a new Xbox Live connection:
  1. Press the Guide button (center logo button), bringing up the pop-up menu
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Select System Settings
  4. Select Network Settings
  5. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network if you're on wifi
  6. Select Test Xbox Live Connection
  7. Select Yes if prompted to update. If you're not prompted and the test completes successfully, you have the most recent update.
If that doesn't work try this link http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/927749-xbox-360/67807343

How do i install new patches

You have to sign into a account with Xbox Live, then connect to the internet, and basicly start the game.

If you don't have Xbox Live, just sign into your gamer profile, and press one of those advertisements for Xbox Live on the dashboard, and follow the instructions.

Note: For Xbox Live Gold it is necessary that you either have bought a Xbox Live Gold card, which contains a card with a code on it.

Note: If you haven't got Xbox Live, and are signing up for it, system updates for the Xbox may accour.

To update the software on an Xbox you can either connect the system to Xbox Live or run a recently published game (newer games often contain the most recent updates for the Xbox system).

Chances are your xbox might be faulty you should send it in to microsoft's repair center. But, it is very unlikely that your xbox live account might be banned/hacked.

My xbox is not letting me sign on x-box live. it is saying a system update is required to sign into xbox live.

You will need to accept the update otherwise you will not be able to sign into Xbox Live.

There was a recent dashboard update, this could be the problem.

I put in an older game into console (Civilization Revolution)that hadn't been played in awhile. I just recently signed up for Xbox Live and this game had not been loaded since then. A window came up and...

Sounds like the update did not install properly. You will have to go back and try to run it again.
xboxscene forums has the answer, unfortunately I can't open the page right now. look up "bad update freezing" or "system freezing after update".

Sorry I don't have the link.

Bought Lips recently and played it fine first

The game was released broken. There is an update on xbox live that fixes it. So you pay twice, once for the game and once for xbox live. If you don't have xbox live or no internet you simply can't play. In other words you got robbed. Nice scam huh?

Xbox live connection keeps crashing.

Hi,

problems usually happen, when the signal strength drops.
I,d suggest hard-wiring the 360 to the PC or router, for optimal performance.

Thankyou for using fixya.
