Question about Kenmore 24032\24036 Top Load Washer
Started to leak after unbalancedspin cycle. What can I do? I've checked for clogged hoses, etc.
This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.
First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.
See the section for the basket and tub assembly's
I'd pull the cabinet in order to get to the hoses going to and from the pump first.
See the following:
If the hoses are fine, check the shaft from the motor to the pump and check inside the pump to make sure the inlet and outlet aren't blocked.
I'd also check the gaskets at the bottom of the tub.
If you're reasonably mechanically inclined, these are easy fixes.
If you have to get to the gaskets at the bottom of the tub, see the following for how to remove the agitators, pump, motor, transmission, spin tube and basket.
(It sounds a bit complicated but it's not really that difficult.)
You don't have to buy a special spanner wrench to remove the spanner nut. I've used a short 10" pipe wrench hooked over one of the tabs on the spanner nut, tap the handle with a hammer and it should loosen.
Also, don't directly hit the drive block with a hammer. Use a short piece of wood under the drive block and tap up on the wood.
As an aside, see the following Whirlpool Service Manual for top load direct drive washers.
Depending on the problem (hoses or gasket) it's certainly less expensive than calling in a repair person.

Tips for a great answer:

It is so common that the drain leaks in many ways and
is the most problematic fault in a washing machine. In all occasions it is
important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the
identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that water has
leaked then as the drain hose pump/valve and fittings are located on the
underside of the machine it is important that you look for possible leaks here.
In some cases the drain hose would be clogged at the drain end to outlet of the
house and so there will be back flushing resulting in overflow to the outside.
Also the drain pump/valve can be clogged or the drain hose clamps can be loose
on the grip which can all cause the leak to occur. Removing and cleaning the
drain pump/valve, tightening of the hose is also very important. Also water can
leak if there are gaps on the front door gaskets and must be checked but this
will happen only during the cycle and not on the drain cycle end.
Check for tips on the link below to identify parts and
Also check on the SEAL on the door and drum, it can also be worn out and reposition the drum to move out which can result in the noise when the spin is activated.

1 Check for any error codes in the Estimated Time Remaining display. The code "F20" indicates a water inlet problem. Press the Stop button twice to end the cycle and check that the faucets are turned on fully. Take a look at the inlet hoses. Close the valves and unscrew them. Look for any clogging on the screen and clear it.
3 "SD" on the display indicates the machine has gone into its Suds Routine. The Suds Routine removes excess suds so that the garments rinse properly. It's not a problem, but can be an indication you've used a non-high-efficiency powder. Just let the SD routine complete and the draining will continue.
