Question about Garden

1 Answer

We can't start our ride on mower. We thought it was the starter motor(it didn't turn when connected to a 12v battery), so replaced it. Still no power getting through. Might be the safety cut-off switches (problems in the past) might be the solenoid. Does anyone have a place i could get a wiring diagram for a lawn flite sit on mower that's about 15 years old?

Hit the starter with a big 10 pound sledge-hammer as hard as you can 7 times- this will fix it for good!

What should I try next? My mower will not start.

When you turn the key, do you have 12V art the Starter?
If you do, then tap the starter with a small hammer. If it cranks, then your Starter is failing

hi jerry396
you say you replaced the starter - do you mean starter solenoid or starter motor ?

if you run battery jump lead from bat + to s/motor terminal and connect neg jumper lead to engine earth and other end of neg jump lead to negative bat post with key on - will the engine crank over easily and start - if so your starter motor is good if not problem is elsewhere.

check your battery - it could be a faulty battery , and earths, also 12 must be present @ solenoid from the key switch in start mode and check that the solenoid has a good ground

check the starter solenoid as well - it could have burned contacts adding very high resistance to starter cable , also check your starter cable - for resistance - it should have no more than 0.3 or 0.4 ohms

make sure all interlocks are operating - ie clutch brake, cutter attachment , nuetral switch , seat switch ,

cheers hope it helps

Makes clicking noise when we turn key we replaced seloniod and now we cant get nothing out of it it wont click and it wont turn over what did we do wrong weve did it before and it worked fine

check all electrical connections between battery and starter both positive and ground, also check battery condition and charge, If the seloniod has three posts on it jump the positive side of the battery where it connects to selonoid across to the small center terminal of the selonoid and this will cause the electromagnetic unit to to send power to the starter, if this proves unsuccessfull, use a jumper cable to jump the battery 12v power directly to the large electrical terminal on the starter itself, this will spin the starter motor but might not engage the gear drive

Mtd riding mower won't start clicking noise

Take some sort of 12V tester and measure voltage on the small terminal on the starter to ground. You should get close to 12 V with key turned. If you see the 12 V, test the incoming large battery terminal. It should also be close to 12V. IF that's ok, check the large terminal on the starter. If you have 12V here, then check for bad ground connection. If any of these are not 12V remove cable and clean connection. How are you sure the battery is ok?

I have a countex k15 ride on mower that will not start. Battery fully charged. The starter goes up but seems to get stuck and just a clonking noise??

The clonking noise I assume is the starter drive (bendix) engaging the flywheel. Could be the starter, or a bad connection on your cables from the battery to the solonoid and then to the starter. Check your ground connections from the negative side of the battery to the motor ground also. Clean all connections throughly. IF you have a tester, check the voltage to the starter terminal when it is engaged. It should be close to 12V , if it's low then work on those connections. If none of that works, make sure your motor is free to turn. Try and turn the motor pully, if you can't turn by had, then carefully try to turn slightly with channel locks. If the motor is locked up the starter can't turn it. If all that doesnt work, then the starter could be bad.

I have got a Craftsman model 917.270821 19.5 electric start 42" mower and cant get it to start I have replaced the starter and had the battery checked and all is good there, but dont seem to be gettin

check the wires from the back of the ignition and also the small wire that connects to the starter, if you get a 12v test light check each wire individually by holding the test light on the wire and have somebody turn the key, the test light should come on if the power is going through the wire.
If there is no power the ignition may need replacing

Need to replace selenoid in my craftman intekpluss 200 hv

Now just to be clear. You had to make 3 attempts to get the starter to kick in, and now the starter doesn't even try to start? No click or anything?

If that's the case, first make sure that the solenoid is getting 12V when you try to start it. If not, replace the start switch. If it does have voltage, check to see if it is offering 12V to the starter. No? Replace solenoid. Yes? Replace or fix starter.

Note. The solenoid will likely have 3 wires. One is battery power, another is switched power to the starter, and the third is 12V from the start switch that tells the solenoid to turn on and supply the switched voltage to the starter. There is actually also a 4rth connection which is connected either through a 4rth wire or directly to the frame of the tractor to the negative side of the battery.

Have a Mitsubishi starter for a small 3 cylinder (Toro Mower)

Removed starter and tested with new battery and jumper cables...starter worked fine. Replaced battery and cleaned cable attachments...unit started as usual.

When starter throws this would indicate that the interconnect circuits are intact..the engine still would not turn...that leaves the battery, the cable, or a siezed engine. The engine flywheel turned easily...no siezure. That left only the battery and cable. Battery was 3 years old...cable was corroded...bad combination. Battery was replace and corrosion removed from the cable terminals...started first crank.
