I am having the same issue except I have (3) GE 2-9450 that will not work and (4) GE 2-9541 that will only work on one of our two phone lines. The GE 2-9451s have been programmed down to be compatible with the GE 2-9450s. When trying to reprogram the older models all of the addresses they say they are full and now the phones signal an error when any button is pushed. Even after removing the battery and unhooking all wires for hours, the phones will not accept any programming.

As for the newer models only accepting one of our two lines is another issue but any suggestions are welcome!

I have the same problem. This happened before, and I found that there is a combination of keys/buttons which need to be held, and the phone will reset itself. The problem I have is I forgot what buttons/keys need to to used to reset. I am almost sure the "station/page" button needed to be held down, however, I don't recall what else was involved.

I bet the problem is that you used to have two phone lines and now you only have one line. You cannot program an extension into one of these phones unless both Line1 and Line2 coming into the phone are working- it will act as if the extension you picked is in use, but the actual thing it is complaining about is that Line2 isn't working. The phones might have been working for years on a single phone line as long as they didn't lose power. But you don't have to throw the phones away just because you gave up your second phone line, you can still make them work. (I did it for a 12 phone system.) The way to to it: make a special cable that connects your single incoming phone line to both L1 and L2 on the phone, tricking the phone into thinking both L1 and L2 are working. Then program the extensions into the phones, and go back to using a normal cable so that only Line1 is hooked up. To make this cable: take a normal male to male cable and cut off one end. Then connect both the black and the green wires of the cable to the green post in a standard phone jack (the kind you would surface mount on the wall will work best), and connect both the yellow and red wires to the rec post inside the phone jack. Now plug your incoming phone wire into the phone jack, and plug the wire you connected into the jack into the back of your phone. The phone is probably already blinking red on the intercom, just push the extension number you want it to have, making sure there are no conflicting extensions already in use.
I would reconnect the phone using a normal line so that only Line 1 is "hot", don't leave it on this double-connected cable any longer than you need to in order to program the extension.
Good luck!

FANTASTIC!! I had looked all over the internet and nothing would work. This worked on first attempt. I was then able to re-assign stations and ever other function. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

I had the same problem and considered the cable but then decided to try something else first and it worked perfectly. I have Comcast cable and voice and internet. So I took each phone to the Comcast modem and plugged each phone needing reset directly into the back of the Comcast modem, of course with the phone power source plugged into an appropriate outlet. Then I pressed the Store/In button followed by the station button I wanted (I don't use the 'lower' locations on the station button but imagine it would work if you pressed 'lower' then the station button.) Then the phone automatically paused a moment then went through a clicking through a process and the phone was reset!! Thanks for the ideas! They helped me get to a solution, just as you did! Boy, cooperation and communication sure make the world better, huh?? :)

Will not dial out on pulse on one line, works on second line

try changing phone to tone dialing . one phone line has been setup for Decadic dialing and the other line may be setup for tone dialing.
If tone dialing is working on one line but not the other then get phone company to change the dialing type on the phone line.
Dual tone multi frequency is the technical name for tone dialing and is more efficient than decadic dialing or pulse dialing.

Phone Not Working

I have had the same problem before and now again for the last week...I finally remembered what I did last time to solve it!

I put my "unavailable" Handset into the main cradle and left it there for a slow count of 20. That has reset the unavailable handset and returned the dial tone etc.

Maddening isnt' it!

Storing memory numbers

1 - Lift the receiver and get the dial tone.
2 - Hit 'Store'
3 - Enter the number you wish to store in the phone
4 - Hit the store button again
5 - Hit the memory button you wish to store the number into
6 - Hang up!

This should store the number wherever you want to put it. Remember if you want to store it in one of the 'lower' positions (second line of the memory index card) push the 'Shift' button before you push the memory button for that location.

My intercom button flashed red to green. When I push a line button, I get a two-tone beep but no dial tone. I changed the internal 9 v battery. I unplugged the phone and waited, then plugged it back in....

Each telephone must be connected to line 1 and line 2 for
proper operation. The remaining lines 3 and 4 may — or may not —
be connected to each station as you desire. First plug in the battery, then the phone lines (1 & 2 are mandatory), and third the power cord. If your intercome LED is blinking red and green, then press: STORE IN, followed by "INTERCOM" followed by a free intercom# (i.e., any of the memory buttons 1 through 16 not already assigned to another telephone set). Then wait for the phone to go through its initiation sequence during which it searches each of the four possible lines. After that concludes, you should get dial tone on your active lines. :-) Marco
