Hello there:
if you clean the under side of the deck where the blade is at you will find a small plug about a 9/16 in size this is your drain plug for the engine ok?

Please do not yell, and please proofread before posting.

My guess it was on it's side, oil from the crankcase slipped past the rings and the valve into the tank. Other guess is you have way too much oil in the crankcase. Drain it out the tank via the condensate drain. If you want to clean the tank, only use nonflammable cleaners. Look at the brake cleaner row in a car parts store. Remove the drain screw. Spray a lot in the tank. Swish it around, drain. Repeat till what drains out is oil free. Drain and refill the oil in the crankcase to the fill line, or to the required amount per the owners manual.

I have a HD 2003 Deuce -- It's ejecting the oil temperature gauge from the oil tank and splattering oil every were. Normally takes place during starting. Why?


There is too much pressure in the oil system. This problem is usually caused by too much oil, or a clogged oil line. Did the bike sit for the winter and the oil level seemed low when you brought it out of storage, so you added oil to the tank? If so, the bike "sumped", meaning oil from the tank drained into the bottom of the engine. Putting more oil into the tank caused an over full situation and that is why the dipstick is popping out of the tank. If this is the problem, siphon or drain some oil from the tank and run the bike until all the oil is out of the bottom of the motor. Then change the oil, adding the correct amount to the tank. DO NOT drain all the oil from the tank before running the bike!

Hi Vander, the Harley Bible says, engine should be at normal operating tempurature, let idle on jiffy stand for two minutes. Shut off engine and hold bike straight up, correct engine oil level will be at the top full mark. Do not overfill oil tank as this will cause engine breathing issues. Drain the oil when it's hot. Sound like you pulled the wrong plug to me. The oil drain plug in under your bike. Look at the oil tank from the right side of your bike. Near the rear of the tank, there's a large hose that runs downward towards the rear of the transmission. It continues down and looks like it connects to a crossmember on the frame. If you'll look under that crossmember, you'll find a plug that uses an Allen wrench or hex key to remove.

Do not remove the oil line that goes from the tank to the engine. However, you said that you found it to be plugged. Plugged with what? If the oil infeed line got plugged, it's because something has gotten into the tank. Drain the tank and check to find out what is inside the tank.

Why do i have to prime my oil pump after every oil change?otherwise no oil pressure..79 ironhead...


You shouldn't be having to prime the oil pump with every oil change. If you're running the original oil tank in it's original position, when you drain the tank by removing the plug at the bottom of it, the oil line from the bottom of the tank going to the oil pump is still full of oil. As long a you're not doing something to drain that line, you should not have to prime the pump. It sounds like to me that you're removing the oil feed line to the pump in order to drain the tank. If you're doing it this way, you will have to prime the pump every time. Drain the oil from the oil tank by removing the drain plug from the tank.

Want to do engine oil tank drain ,but can't seam


On most softail bikes, the "horseshoe" oil tank has a drain mounted down low on the frame. Look along the bottom side of the oil tank from the right side of the bike. You'll see a hose or a pipe going downwards towards the transmission. The rest of the pipes run to the engine. Follow this on down and it should run along the frame just behind and below the transmission. It'll have a plug in the end of the hose or pipe. Remove the plug and the engine oil will drain out.

you probly drained the primary case oil, which house the primary drive chain and clutch. The main oil is in the oil tank, there should be a drain bolt on the bottom of the tank

Where is the drain plug


The oil tank is on the bottom of the transmission in your bike. There are two drain plugs on the bottom of the oil tank. The one closest to the center is the transmission oil drain. The drain on the left front of the oil pan is the engine oil drain.
