Question about Breville Conical Burr Coffee Grinder - Stainless-Steel

Open Question

The burr grinder does not worked

I bought the Breville burr grinder two years ago. I have been using it pretty often (to have freshly ground coffee). A few days ago it stopped working. I cleaned it's parts very carefully, put them back. It worked a couple of times and stopped again. Do I have to change or sharpen the burr? How can I do that? Thanks.

SOURCE: grinder blades dull

I may be having the same problem. My coffee grinder has had more leftover beans in it more and more this week, until finally today, possibly a quarter teaspoon passed through to the filter basket and the remaining beans were still very much beans. My first assumption was the blades.

My CCM grinder eventually stopped working altogether and I had to throw it away. Amazon comments says this is common. But while my grinder was working, it gave the same symptoms. This problem was caused by beans getting jammed and the outlet from the burr wheel being clogged. If that's the problem, cleaning it out is simple.

Obviously the problem is with your grind, not the Breville. SImply adjust your grind to finer.
Good luck!

SOURCE: severe clogging

Try using long grain white rice works better than minute rise, if that does not help, then the burrs need to be replaced on grinder.

SOURCE: Breville expresso filter

Put the coffee filter in the oven (yes the OVEN) and run a auto-clean cycle, it will turn all to hashes. Run a clean water cycle after to clean it.
It may discolor the filter a bit, but this is only cosmetic.

It happened to me because the grinder at the grocery store had trouble without anybody noticing it. It's then I decided to buy my own grinder.

Good luck,

JF

I sometimes forget there's an on/off switch on the back of the thing, since I mainly use the button on the side.

The on/off button comes off consequently machine isn't working

if you are handy the switch needs to be replaced. Soldering may be rquired and there is very little wire to pull. You can get a rocker switch at radio shack plus you need a triangular driver bit for base screws, It's really a poor design on a good grinder. You actually NOT have a switch and just hard wire it. I fixed mine for 3 bucks and an hours time

Why is the grind from my Breville BCG450XL in the finest position coming out like a drip grind with a fair amount of dust mixed in? I have an old Solis with exactly the same conical burrs which is grinding...

The Breville was designed to be used with Pressurized Portafilters, which most Home Espresso Machines have. These filters use a courser grind, so when it says Espresso on the Breville, it's really closer to Drip. The Turkish setting is barely fine enough for Espresso. There is a limiter on the Breville that prevents the user from going any finer, if you crack it open and remove the limiter, you can go as fine as the Solis. Becareful though, the burs can come so close to each other that they can chip and break.

Apparently we must be the only two people on the planet with this problem. I have a Breville burr grinder that I received as a gift, and it magnetized the grounds directly out of the box. I am considering opening the casing up and grounding the motor through the plug. I would need to replace the 2-prong plug with a 3-prong plug. The casing is made of plastic and stainless steel, so they wouldn't need to ground the chassis, but if the electric current running through the motor or the burrs (attached to the motor) are the root cause then I would think that grounding the metal chassis of the motor through the plug/outlet should do the trick.

It could well be gummed up with years of coffee bean residue

Very simple to take apart. There are two screws holding the cannister. They are hidden under 5mm round rubber covers that you have to pry off. Then remove the two screws holding the plastic cover. Mark the position of the numbered dial relative to the brass burr assembly then remove it. Once exposed, you should be able to figure out why it is locked. Scrape away as much gunk as you can.
