Hi,

Can you tell me a couple of things that will help me assist you please?

Does the dryer turn off as soon as you take your finger off the start button?

Does it make a loud buzzing or humming sound when first starting up?

When it stops can you start it back up right away?

What is the brand and model number from the tag just inside the door?

Thanks!

    Hi,

Thank you for the information. This problem is most likely the run winding on the motor being bad.

This motor has a start and a run circuit internally. If the start winding is good and the run winding bad it will start but when it switches over to the run mode it quits.

The motor runs about $120.00 for this model.

You should NOT be having to buy another motor in 2 years time. That is absolutely crazy.
Whats your model number? I may be able to give a better answer if I had something to work with .
Thanks for the nice rating. Kids

Why does my dryer start but quit a second later

If it quits immediately after you let go of start button, then it isusually a bad timer or control board. The motor gets all its power during start from the start button or start relay, but once it is up to speed the motors centrifugal switch will flip, getting power from the run circuit. If there is no power supplied to run circuit (like when timer is off, or door is open) then the motor shuts off.

Whirlpool Dryer made loud humming noise and quit

Something caused the motor to lock up. The humming noise was the start winding in the motor trying to start rotation, but could not because of lockup. The humming noise stopped when the start winding burned out ( will only last 6 or 7 seconds). It will require a new motor, plus repair to whatever caused it to lock up in the first place.

Dryer won't turn on

turn the breaker on and off.If the dryer is electrical it should be a double breaker (2 switches connected with a small bar across)
Unplug the dryer and plug in after 10 seconds - might reset the electronics
dryer has thermal cutouts for safety so leave it unplugged for 1 hour see if that helps. If it starts and quits again calling service is best solution. We are talking lots of voltage here and fire is not an option
There are internal fuses as well If they blow you definitely have a problem
Todays dryers are more complex and they do need somebody qualified
to service them safely
good luck

Light underneath dryer, right side, front

Hi,

What you`ve ``just started noticing...`` is likely the ignitor glowing or the burner burning and is quite normal for a ``gas`` dryer.

Hope that answer`s your question. If so please take a second to rate the reply I provided to you here at fixya.

Thank you.

Dryer starts and then quits

You have a faulty heat safety switch. This switch prevents the dryer from overheating and causing fire. Some dryers have as many of 4 of these switches (seems redundant but it prevents fire) Depending on how confident you are with repairs the back of the dryer can be removed and the switches can be replaced. Most of them are circular and are found along the dryer exhaust area. I do recommend that this repair be done by a professional if you do not have allot of experience yourself because of the safety factors involved. Good Luck!!!
