1zenith supersport 286e how to get to it - moz-screenshot.jpgmoz-screenshot-1.jpgI can give you the basic idea of what you need to do.
I heard fro a guy who was NOT technical that he replaced the battery in a Zenith Superspot 286
(and it was not a problem)

If your computer is losing its time or date settings, or you are receiving a message:
CMOS Read Error,
CMOS checksum error, or
CMOS Battery Failure
first attempt to leave the computer on for 24 hours. In some cases this can charge the battery and resolve your issue. This often resolves CMOS battery related issues when a computer has been left off for several months.

If this does not resolve your issue follow the below steps.

Open the computer case and find the battery on the computer MotherBoard verify that it will be accessible and that it can be removed.
Most computers today use a coin 'cell' CMOS battery as shown in the image below.

HCL Power Lite 9100 CMOS battery requires replacement. Is it easily accessible on mother board? How can I get it replaced?

CMOS batteries are usually easy to replace. Unplug the machine, Open up the case and look for the battery shaped like a quarter. It has one "clip" holding it in place. Bring it to CVS or someplace that sell watch batteries and replace it with the same voltage. Replace the cover plug it in and turn it on.

Factory reset for an optiplex260 home computer

So, you can find an answer on google, here it is for example -
If you need reset CMOS, then -
The CMOS on the Optiplex GX260 desktop computer from Dell powers the motherboard when the computer is unplugged to store configurations such as the system date and time. You can reset the CMOS by removing, then replacing, the CMOS battery. The battery, however, is not easily accessible because it is on the motherboard. You need to open the computer to access the motherboard. Make sure to touch a piece of metal to discharge any static electricity before touching any of the insides of the computer to prevent damage.

If you wish recovery operation system (Windows) then -
If you did not format your drive, just click the F2 key at startup, and follow the prompts.
Dell will restore your system.
This is the "secret" restore function for Dell computers.
You're very welcome

I'm trying to enter set up. It is asking for password. I don't have one have do I get in?

You will need to clear the cmos memory. Unplug the laptop from the mains power supply. Remove the laptop battery. Press and hold the ON button for a minute or two to try to discharge any stray capacitance. Now comes the hard part. Locate the CMOS backup battery. This might be easily accessed from underneath, or under the keyboard. If you are unlucky then it will be hidden somewhere not easily accessible. If you provide the actual model number I might be able to find out where the battery is. If you manage to find the CMOS battery, you need to disconect it from the motherboard (or remove it if it is in a socket). Leave the battery disconnected for a few minutes. Replace the cmos battery and put the laptop back together. with any luck the cmos will be reset to default and you will be able to get into the bios.

I have an Averatec 5400 laptop. It will not hold its cmos settings. Everytime it boots up it reverts to January 2003 and I have to reset the settings. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to replace the CMOS battery. This will be under a "Flap" under the laptop. It is a small round thin Cell. 3.6 v similar to a Watch battery. link below to see what I mean. http://www.alllaptops.co.uk/Cmosbatt/Averatec.htm

Where is the cmos battery located on a toshiba satelite A105-s2131

There are several access panels on bottom of your laptop. These should have markings that designate what is behind each. CMOS battery can be either behind the hard drive panel or the memory card panel.

Alternatley, you can try this link to Tom's Hardware where someone is discussing how to do on a similar model. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/247842-30-replace-cmos-battery-toshiba-satellite

How do I replace a dead cmos on acer 4520LCi travelmate laptop? The laptop no longer keeps track of system time when shut off completely. Can you tell me the exact location of the cmos so I can be able to...

Hi,

what you replace is not the CMOS, but the CMOS battery.

On an ACER from those years the CMOS battery looks like a coin, or a coin wrapped in plastic and connected to the motherboard.

On most models from same series the battery is located on the lower side of the motherboard, like on picture below:

On some model the battery may be located underneath the keyboard.

Here disassembly instructions for a similar model.

How do I change the CMOS battery on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D 7820?

My best suggestion, is to remove the CD Drive, Battery, and Hard Drive. THen undo all of the screws on the back panel. There is no easy access panel to do this, you have to remove the entire back panel. once you have the back cover off, it should be pretty easy to replace the battery.
