I heard fro a guy who was NOT technical that he replaced the battery in a Zenith Superspot 286
(and it was not a problem)

If your computer is losing its time or date settings, or you are receiving a message:
CMOS Read Error,
CMOS checksum error, or
CMOS Battery Failure
first attempt to leave the computer on for 24 hours. In some cases this can charge the battery and resolve your issue. This often resolves CMOS battery related issues when a computer has been left off for several months.

If this does not resolve your issue follow the below steps.

Open the computer case and find the battery on the computer MotherBoard verify that it will be accessible and that it can be removed.
Most computers today use a coin 'cell' CMOS battery as shown in the image below.

I have an E1 error on my cardio zone supersport 4.0 HP treadmill. Just stoped when running on it. speed was at 8.3 mph

Unplug your unit, then remove motor shroud . Next step is to locate the motor control board and plug you unit in. Your board should light up with red ,green, or amber L E Ds now manually move the running belt and you should see one of those lights flickers that should tell us the speed sensor is working, if not it needs to be replaced , their maybe other issues, Unplug unit then find the red and black wire that connects the motor to board disconnect them used a simple DC power source like a 9v battery connect them to the motor leads and if the motor armature rotates then all problems point to the motor controll board.

BIOS reset

By resetting the CMOS battery all you need to do is to teardown your laptop and have to remove and reinstall the CMOS battery. And for the replacement of the CMOS battery of your Samsung laptop just call SAmsung technical support so that they can give you the exact model of the CMOS battery and where you can have the battery. How do I replace a dead cmos on acer 4520LCi travelmate laptop? The laptop no longer keeps track of system time when shut off completely. Can you tell me the exact location of the cmos so I can be able to...

what you replace is not the CMOS, but the CMOS battery.

On an ACER from those years the CMOS battery looks like a coin, or a coin wrapped in plastic and connected to the motherboard.

On most models from same series the battery is located on the lower side of the motherboard, like on picture below:

On some model the battery may be located underneath the keyboard.

Here disassembly instructions for a similar model.

Clear BIOS pwd micron gx3 notebook

Set the Cmos jumper to clear. Power up the pc. Power down the PC. Set the Cmos jumper back to normal position, power up the PC.

Or take out the coin battery and replace it after 10 seconds.

Note, all bios settings will be set to default. So be aware of some possible issues you may need to correct in bios after the reset.

Toshiba cmos battery disconnect

on a Satellite 1415-S115 You will have to open up the clam shell and remove all of the B25 and F6 screws from the bottom, as well as the B16 and B6 screws under the keyboard. To remove the keyboard, pry up the trim piece that holds the power button with a sharp nife a stanley blade is always usefull remove the three screws. mind the wireless wire leads there a pain.

The CMOS battery will be under the right side of the hand rest, next to the mouse. It has two leads and the battery is in a blue bag.

simply replace the battery and reassemble your laptop.
