Several things there:

  • The thermostat may be set too low
  • Inadequate gas supply
  • Malfunctioning thermostat
  • You are losing heat faster then you are adding it. (If the heat loss in the pool is greater than the heat input, the heater might be too small or you may need a thermal barrier). Use a thermal barrier to help prevent heat loss
Keep that the heater should resume heating automatically if the timer turned off the system.

Its possible that you need the User Guide like reference:

I have a Jandy Pool Heater LAARS LT low NOx gas heater.

I appreicate your response, but I do not know what I am supposed to do with that information. Specifically, what should I do to check those things?
I went to link 1 and link 2 but those were different heaters than I have.

    thanks
    Steve

How much time would a technician need to replace a high limit switch on a Jandy Pool Heater?

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

It should only take a few minutes to actually replace the part; quite a bit longer to diagnose the problem depending on the way the switch failed and overall condition of the heater. It would not be unreasonable to get a bill for an hour to troubleshoot and repair a heater with a defective high limit switch.

Laars Lt heater will not start- pressure switch light

it is time to check your filter make sure is not dirty and if your filter is clean and still doing this then the problem can be with one of the safety sensors they do have 2 hight limit switch located in the heater heather they re round with two wires on each one turn power off to heater and get a voltemer reader and check the hight limits for continuty they should read zero on your metter it can be your temp sensor heaters are so complicated that it is always good to have a pool tech service it I was a pool tech in california but now I am located in georgia
