PC does not see camcorder when connected via firewire port

I have windows vista home premimum on a dell 420 xps. I have tried different fire wire cables and different firewire ports to no avail. On the LCD panel, there is a flashing "DV IN". Does this indicate a bad DV port on the camcorder ?

I have the very same problem

Apparently I get wind from researching this issue that it's not the camera, it's not the cable, it's not your computers' hardware, that this is an issue with windows directly. I have the same camera and several other systems with 1394 (firewire) ports, and this camera used to work when I had windows xp service pack 1.

Sir when I canect my dv camcorder pc via fire wire ...but not capture video..and erorr show code 1021 ...there are no free reusorses in to solve me....thanks..

see this topic and contact the supplier .God bless you

FireWire connection to computer keeps getting dropped. Check with manufacturer to make sure you have the latest driver and firmware updates for your camera and computer. Always turn the camera's power on before making a FireWire connection. Disconnect the FireWire cable before turning the camera off. Use the camera's AC adapter when making FireWire connections. Try a different FireWire cable and try connecting the camera to a different computer. FireWire cables and ports sometimes fail.

How do i make a ieee port on the computer to connect via ilink cable

Well you need to buy the Fire Wire Card from PC World, the card pushes into the side slot and then at the back of your PC you will see the Fire Wire port you now have, you will need a standard Firewire cable and then your all set.

I try to connect my sony CCD-TRV608 camcorder to my pc but nothing happens. Please help?

Hello, well you will find if you use Windows Vista/Win 7 no drivers for Sony cameras are loaded, none as far as I am aware are made.
But if you use Firewire cable as I do you wont need drivers, BUT make sure your camera is connected to PC via Fire Wire before you turn PC on, as it wont work if you get this wrong.

DCR-HC52 fire wire port doesn't work. Have tried on several computer, none of them even see the camera. Best Buy tried using a different cable same results

This happens only mostly if you connect camera on Firewire AFTER you been PC okay, so plug your camera in the Firewire sockets then put your PC on, then the PC will open the firewire port up for use and set up a user port adrs for the port.

Unable to transfer video information onto PC ACER ASPIRE using windows Vista for editing by windows movie maker. Interface on PC is via USB. If software driver for firewire or 1394 interface is available...

If you want to use the USB cable to connect the Camcorder to the Computer to transfer the video to the Computer then:

(Applicable for Vista Operating System Only.)

This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the VISTA Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. (An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer. The Sony Camcorder will have the 4 pin i.LINK cable and if the computer has the 6 pin i.LINK port, then you may have to use the 4 pin to 6 pin i.LINK Cable).

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer.

Refer this Link for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

NOTE: As the Camcorder does not support USB streaming with Vista, it is not required to use any Sony Device Driver to transfer the video to the Computer. You do not require any Drivers or Software from Sony to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/Firewire interface.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Problem with compatibilty between windows vista

since you're using vista you can connect camcorder to pc uding ilink or firewire cable. usb conection would not work. no dirvers or sofwtare needed, you can use windows movie maker to capture videos. check your computer for any ilink port. it is a different connection from usb. go to and type this model number, vmcil4615, for you to have an idea what firewire cable looks like.

This solution is based on my assumption that you're using the iLink (Firewire/IEEE1394) port on the camcorder, and that you're using a PC running Windows 2000/XP/Vista.

Make sure the camcorder is plugged into its AC adapter, as sometimes people report problems when using battery power. If you're using a laptop PC, plug it into the mains also. Shutdown your PC completely (click the Start button, then choose Shutdown, then select "shutdown my pc" or "turn off") and turn it on again; then plug in the camcorder.

If that doesn't work, try a different port, if you have more than one. Other things to try are a different PC (might be a problem with your port, drivers, or the Windows installation) or a different cable (might be a broken wire inside the cable).

If you get the same problem when using a different PCs and different cables, you should take your camcorder in for servicing.

My computer does not recognise the camcorder

this is usually a driver issue.  check to make sure there isn't a new driver available from Sony.  Make sure the power is NOT turned on until AFTER you plug in the firewire port.
