How do I clean dust inside the camera? I noticed some splotches on my photos, then looked closely at the lens and it appears there is dust on the inside of the lens.

You can't clean inside the camera. Dust inside the lens would be so out of focus, it wouldn't register on your pics unless the particle was huge. Do these splotches only happen in your flash pictures?

My pentax k1000 has a black splotch in viewfinder, does not show up in images.

It would depend on exactly where the splotch is. If it's on the outside of the viewfinder, you could simply clean it off with a damp cloth (and maybe some Windex or Formula 409). If the eyepiece is damaged, you can order a replacement part here.

Remove the lens and look at the mirror. If their is something on the mirror, you can carefully clean it. The mirror is very sensitive and vulnerable to scratching. If the reflective coating has been removed then you'll need a new mirror.

Look up at the bottom of the focusing screen. That's the more-or-less clear piece of glass that the mirror will reflect light from the lens onto. If there's a splotch on the outside, you can clean it off.

Those are the parts you can get to. If the splotch is on something on the inside, then you'll have to take the camera to a good camera shop to have a trained professional disassemble and clean it.

Hi Steve, I inform you that the problem only is moisture. Please follow this.
1. Put the camera in sunlight for few hours. After that use it & if you face same problem then
2. You need to visit camera repair shop and they open the camera completely and clean all the inside part of the camera. because you need to clean the moisture inside of lens, viewfinder & sensor too.
So only hope in sunlight. If its solve then fine.

As the mirror moves up out of the way when a photo is taken this will have no effect on your pictures. The amount of dirt that you describe does seem to indicate that the camera is very dirty. You should clean it carefully, use no oil, anywhere, get all the dust and particles you can out of the camera. If there is dirt in the film transport area this will probably scratch the film as you wind on each time. The only dirt that will come out on the photos is any that is on the film when the photo is taken; these will be different each photo, or any on the back of the lens; these will be the same on each photo, but different for a different lens. Cleaning "the black part" from the lens side... this is actually the shutter itself, and is made from very thin metal. If you have bent or damaged this when cleaning it, you will have probably scrapped the camera. This can be changed, but only really by a repair shop. Again, dirt on this, either side, will not appear on photos, but might fall onto the film during exposure, leaving under exposed dust marks. Shutter blades can get tangled up, and not work nicely, not close properly. Try pressing the shutter with the back open and the lens off, looking through and see if there are any light leaks when the shutter is supposed to be closed.

It might be caused by some dirt on your lens (either front or rear element) but is more likely to be dust on the cameras sensor.

There are a couple of sample images of what this looks like here and here.

Dust spots typically have a softish edge to them and affect more than 1 pixel. (if it is just the 1 pixel affected, which a very sharp edge, this could be a defective sensor).

Following the instructions in the manual for cleaning the sensor. Avoid touching the sensor (unless it is with a specialist sensor cleaning brush) and avoid cans of compressed air; use a hand-blower brush instead.

Black marks on pictures

It appears that you have dust on your sensor that is recording in the same place on each image. It is a common problem with digital cameras. If you are adept at cleaning the sensor yourself, it is a relatively easy chore. However, if you have any doubts about it, take it to a reputable camera dealer and let them do it.

Optio X visual defects

I've not seen any such defects on my Optio X, although I don't use flash much. The some-300 photos I've taken so far are completely clean. Sounds like dust on the CCD. Might warrant a return to Pentax.
