Question about Clarion APX400.4M Car Audio Amplifier

Open Question

NO Audio from speakers?

I have a Clarion Marine CD Radio (XMD3) connected to a Clarion APX400.4M Amp. (on Boat) and cannot get any sound out of the speakers. Have power to both units and both seem to be working except for the audio. I have checked the two fuses behind radio, the 40 amp fuse in the amp itself and the two fuses at the battery connection - all good. Have checked connections at speakers and all seem to be good. After winter and getting boat back from shop for summer-zing boat noticed one of the wires of the rear remote broken off, repaired and reinstalled and seems to be working, all buttons function on both remotes and seem to control radio fine but no sound. This is the first time I did not re-install the battery myself as it was re-installed at the shop. Thanks in advance for any help.

SOURCE: 400 watt amplifier not working

Disconnect all the speaker wires from the amplifier that runs the 6-speaker system. Switch off the amplifier or disconnect the remote turn-on wire, then re-connect it. Does the power light still flash with no speakers connected? If so, your amplifier is probably damaged. If not, then connect one speaker and see if it plays. If it doesn't, disconnect the first speaker and connect a different one. If the first speaker plays, continue connecting the rest of the speakers until you find the one that's causing the problem.

SOURCE: Sea ray boat Clarion stereo and amp

Unless a fuse is blown, there's a problem with the wiring or you have a defective component, there's no reason the amp shouldn't come on. You need to confirn that you have the proper voltage at the amp.

With your multimeter set to DC volts, the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp (not on the point where the ground wire connected to the vehicle) and the head unit on (so the amp will have remote voltage applied), touch the red lead alternately to the B+ and remote terminals of the amp. If the voltage is below ~11 volts, you need to check the wiring feeding whichever line is too low.

SOURCE: NO SOUND FROM CLARION XMD3

I have a XMD3 with Sirius on a Larson boat. Had same problem - everything seemed to be fine on unit (everything lit up and CD showed different tracks and time changing), but no sound. I suspected a ground problem and checked wires I could see. Found one speaker wire that had been frayed due to faulty installation. As soon as I wiggled that wire I got sound on all speakers. Not sure why one faulty speaker would kill all sound, but it did for me.

SOURCE: Clarion M5675 won't turn on

Take the stereo all the way out and hook the black wire to the negative terminal and the yellow and the red wire to the positive terminal on a charged car battey. If it still does not turn on you may have fuse in the back of the deck. If not it's probably fried.

SOURCE: radio works on tech bench, not in the boat

Yes, the yellow wire is the switched hot lead - it is typically connected in one way or another to the ignition switch. There is also a smaller gauge red wire that is connected directly to the battery (through a fuse of course). Both of these wires have to have power for the radio to work. Also the black wire has to be connected to a good ground. If all three of these wires are confirmed to be in good order (power where there should be power, ground where there should be ground and no shorts) the radio should at least power up when they are all hooked up and the ignition is on.

Disconnect all the speaker leads and then hook one speaker (a new, known to work speaker) up directly to the radio using a short (6"-12") piece of speaker wire. Does that speaker work then?

I have a Clarion installed in my boat. Sirrius, cd am fm. No jack to plug in iPod. Solution?

FM Modulator.

(clarion makes a hardwire direct connect one)

FM200

You would use a 3.5mm to RCA adapter

There are also battery powerd ones (Belkin)

Either one is used by simply tuning in to an empty (white noise) radio station.

Im assuming the XMD3-RET is not the radio you are inquiring about since you described Sirius as a feature.

Some clarion radios have an AUX input or changer port that can be converted to an ipod cable.

If you reply with a model # i can look it up for you. I am a Clarion Dealer.
