No audio output to speakers from optical BD input

I have been using an STR DGS520 for some time, with a PS2 as my Blu-ray player, with an optical cable to the receiver. After a home power failure while the system was running, I have no sound output to the speakers. The sound is still being received by my monitor, and I canm listen through that, so the problem is not with the cable or set-up. The display on the front of the receiver says that it is set for optical input.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hi! The capacitor that links to the audio output may have blown during the power failure causing it not to work. Try checking the capacitors for this may need replacement. This can be found inside the unit attached to the mainboard. Hope this helps and good luck!

How do I connect my DISH, TV and Blu-ray. Right now I have my DISH satelite HD cable connected to the TV, and a HD cable connected from my TV to the Blu-Ray. The problem i'm having is the sorround sound...

hi,
Is there is any optical digital output in your satelite HD. Then connect that optical digital output of satelite HD to the optical digital input of your surround system (blue ray player) using an optical cable.
Then press the function button on the remote of surround sound system (blue ray player) and select D.IN. (D.IN means DIGITAL IN). You will get the audio through the surround sound system. if you need any more assistance fell free to contact me through fixya.

Reciever overloads/recently installed blu-ray player

Overloads are generally heat- or current-related. Digital inputs don't have adjustments (all 1's is as high as they go), so I doubt there is any relationship between the Blu-Ray's optical cable and the overload.

You've said what doesn't affect the problem, so what's that leave? I'd look at shorts or mismatches between the amps and the speakers.

Video but no audio

This receiver does not support audio via HDMI. You need to connect BD player via spdif cable. Use optical or coax depending on what does the BD player support - receiver supports both.

When connecting hdmi out from my panasonic blue-ray player to the dvd input in my yamaha rx-v365 there is not audio or video, why?

There are several video and audio inputs named DVD. For video you have HDMI, component and composite. For audio you have standard analog stereo and digital coaxial spdif input.
You need to configure the receiver to use the correct inputs - that means HDMI and coax. Also you need to connect the BD player via coax spdif cable to the receiver, because rx-v365 doesn't support audio via HDMI. If BD player has only optical output, use DTV/CABL HDMI input and DTv/CABL Optical input on the receiver.

Sony STR-DA5300ES Audio Problem

I am posting this to try and get everyones audio problem for this receiver fixed. If you only connected the HDMI cable to the 510, you will not get sound. This receiver passes through HDMI only, no processing of audio. You must either connect a fiber optic or digital coax to the 510 for that respective HDMI input from the BD player, the DVD HDMI only accepts digital coax, and the Video2 HDMI only accepts fiber optic. If you BD player does not have digital coax out for audio, you must move the connection to Video2 HDMI and connect fiber optic to the Video2 fiber input. Sony butchered the whole purpose of HDMI with this receiver. Hope this heps you. By the way, it is hardware, no firmware update will correct this.

No Audio

What port do you have the HDMI from you BD player into on the 510. If you have it on the DVD port then fiber optic will do you no good, the DVD HDMI only supports digital coax, the Video2 HDMI only accepts fiber optic, and there is an extra fiber optic for the Sat input. If your BD player does not have digital coax out, or if you dont want to buy another cable, just move the HDMI from DVD to Video2 on the 510. I am willing to bet you have the BD player plugged into the DVD HDMI port and the fiber optic cable from you BD player to the Video2 fiber input.
