Rainbird controller randomly fails with error message "bad wiring

I have an issue with my rainbird system where at random times the controller at random times says I have "bad wiring" . I think the problem is thst I am running 2 pumps on the system at the same time with 2 separate pump relay switches. The controller gives me two wire slots for the common, so I added a second common to wire to the second switch relat switch to start the additional pump. It worked for a while but the same problem happen again. Any ideas what I could do differently?

SOURCE: how do you reset the timer for a rainbird

Hi,

Resetting involves reprogramming, but that's easy to do. You probably have a cheat sheet, like I do.

Unplug the timer, remove the battery, and go have a cold drink (let it sit for about 10 minutes. Reinstall the battery, plug it back in and you are good to go. Reprogram.

SOURCE: I change the battery on sprinkler RainBird box and

When the battery is removed and the power is off, it has to be reprogrammed when power is restored, but you knew that. Check that the battery was reinstalled properly, and that the 'wall power' is hot, and properly seated to the unit. This should do it.

The manual has troubleshooting

Looking through the manual I can see potential trouble areas:
-Water pressure too high > 60 psi is ordinary household pressure > order Brady BTG pressure gauge that connects to hose
-Overlapping times are 'stacked' by timer ... but 'more than one start time' is listed as cause of stations turning on when not supposed to >> reset and re-program timer, make chart of on-off times
-Weak or missing AA batteries >> clean terminal inside timer and replace batteries
-Hard water deposits or unfiltered water clogging water valve (water softeners frequently have this problem) >>> see if vinegar or CLR cleaner can help flush water valve >>> add sediment filter in front of timer
-Look at screen > does display show Manual? As in manual mode2322052.jpg
-Fuse blown
-Bad solenoid
-A combination of problems listed above with sediment -or- solenoid as main suspects

Error code 8 on Rainbird E class controller

Check with Rainbird. Could be low PS voltage, bad solenoid(s), electronics meltdown, bad timer setting, etc.

Once you know what the code means you can roll up sleeves and get to it.

Rainbird esp modular controller will not operate system -

Make sure that the transformer is supplying the 26 volts ac required by the pump relay and zone solenoids. If the voltage is there and unit still will not operate then the electronics are to blame.

They shouldn't be working all at once. Check the wiring. Each zone should be on it's own terminal in the controller. Also check the boxes outside to see the wiring wasn't done incorrectly.

It is likely the water pressure is low (perhaps a leak in the irrigation pipe) or simply the spring is stuck. Wonder if you have more than one sprinkler connected and if all are having the same problem.

Rainbird sprinkler system one station sets off alarm on controller and wont run''

Ususally means you have a bad solenoid on the valve. Find the valve, disconnect solenoid and run system. If no error on controller, then that is the problem.
