Why when i plug in my garmin device does it show a computer but no maps

Are you using a simple USB lead plugged into a USB power source? If so, the unit is (correctly) going into its USB mode.

You can also try different USB leads, some do not have the data line so act as just a power lead. It's the data line that signals the GPS unit to go into USB mode.

Regardless of the type of lead, your unit will charge like this and then, when the lead is disconnect and the unit turned on, will work normally off the internal battery.

If this is your experience, you will need either the correct GPS power source or a "USB power" lead.

Have a large socket but not a usb socket how do I update cannot find a lead that looks like it would fit

The USB cable will have a regular size USB connection on one end and the other end will have a micro USB connection. There will be a micro USB connector on the back side of the nuvi 255W.
The correct cable to use is Garmin part number 010-10723-01.

Am awaiting delivery of an AS full size silver keyboard from Argos. I need to get the right midi lead to connect to my computer. Is it a standard DIN socket?

OFTEN the keyboards come with the required cable. Some require only a A/B USB cable. If it uses the 5 pin MIDI type cable, you will need a USB to MIDI external adapter for your computer.

How do I hook up my Olympus8000 digital camera to my computer? I am having trouble finding the correct port to hook it in the camera? Please help me

You need a USB port on your computer. You don't say what computer you have, but most recent Windows PCs have USB ports. Some Macs may not have this port.

The USB lead for you camera should have come with the camera. The socket on the camera is a miniature version, and wont take a standard size USB plug. If you don't have this cable you can find one on Amazon by searching for "Olympus 8000 USB".

Using a USB lead, you shouldn't need a driver or other software. The computer can recognise the camera memory as a removable drive without actually recognising the camera as a camera. Try looking in "My Computer" for an extra drive (Under "Devices with Removable Storage") and opening that. There should be directories with picture files in them that you can drag to your desktop.

Many people find it more convenient to just take the memory card out of the camera and put it in a card reader, especially now that these readers are built into computers and printers. You can't get the pics from the camera's internal memory that way though.

I have misplaced my USB cable, where can I find one

There are several sizes of mini-USB connectors at the camera end of USB leads, but you will be able to find a generic one to fit your camera by doing a search on Amazon. I found many leads compatible with Nikon cameras just by searching "nikon usb lead".

Hi there i have lost my usb lead for my camera . Would you know where can i purchase a usb lead for my camera so as i can down load pictures to my computer. Also i would like to try and buy a spare battery...

Replacement cords can be purchased at stores like Walmart and Best Buy...take your camera along to get the correct size plug. You could also just get a card reader at those stores and use it for's much easier and faster. I've found the best prices for batteries can be found at

Why wont my external hard drive registor on my computer? and why wont it show up on my computer?

does it show up on another laptop or computer?
Some of the larger hard drives need access to 2 separate USB ports to allow enough current for the drive to spin up and be accessed. Each USB port on your computer can only provide half an amp of current.
If the external drive has a lead with 2 USB plugs make sure you have both plugged in at the host computer.
The larger drives eg 1TB in a large enclosure usually have a dedicated power supply which you need to use. The smaller pocket size drives (containing laptop hard drives usually no larger than 500Gb) typically only make use of a USB lead for data and power access (whether it be a single or double headed USB lead)
