Samsung 40" lcd tv with power supply fault?

When I switch the Samsung tv on it just keeps making clicking sounds for about an hour and then eventually switches itself on!

I used to be a qualified service engineer a many years ago, before LCD was around and if someone knows the faulty parts needed and has a circuit diagram I am sure I could fix it.

My tv keeps clicking on and off at startup. Sometimes taking 3-4 attempts to turn the screen on. Also, it will start without picture only sound

Your #1 suspect: LCD inverter, which supplies white light to the screen.

Your #2 suspect: the switched power supply, specifically 24VDC lead that supplies power
to the LCD inverter.

Either way, enjoy your 40-in set while it lasts, since its soon to be heading for a TV repair service.

Samsung LCD LA40R81BX/XFA TV doesn' switchon/ keeps clicking

Nothing to do with connecting the TV to the stereo, more likely you are having power supply failing, the clicking sound is from power relay, the power supply may have unstable DC due to bad DC filter caps, bad solder joints or loose connections.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools, electronics knowledge, and know safety precaution then please read on:

Clicks on and off several times before staying on

The power supply will sense if the set is 'drawing' too much current and switch itself off. This could be the case here. The power supply board may eventually go completely bad.
