HP Pavillion dv4000 turns on and shuts off and turns on and shuts off -

My notebook was fine until yesterday. It will start to turn on and then shut off and keep turning on and shutting off. Tried taking out the battery and using the power cord but none of that helps. It won't get to the start up page. It's about 2.5 years old. No issues until now. Can you help?

No, no beeps. It doesn't even get to the point of booting up. Although at first it did and I was able to get to my login page and then it started shutting off and on.

Nope - didn't install any software - I can't even get it to stay on, let alone reinstall anything....

go into the bios setup F2 @ bootup.

Or esc or delete ( depending on bios )

put your windows CD in the CD/DVD Drive.

in the bios change the first boot-start device to be D:/ E:/ Or CD Rom drive.

Your computer will now boot from CD, allowing you to re-install your operating system.

If this fails, you may have faulty hard-drive. Memory Or CPU.

No I work on HP's all day, it is nothing to do with the OS or the BIOS. It is a problem with the motherboard fan control, in other words the mainboard is bad even with the latest BIOS update. The CPU is getting too hot, as this happens the CPU gets damaged because the Fox board does not have a temp sensor. So periodically the voltage make kick on the cpu but for the most part the computer will never work the same. The longest I got this dv4000 to run was just under 4 hours with no apps running.
Total overhaul replace board, processor, and possibly the fan.

~Hope this answers your question.

My hp laptop keeps shutting off

Hello here is the home page:

I think your pc is overheating.

The fan and the cooling element, must be cleaned.
The pc shuts off, when the cpu max temperature is reached.

The fan and the cooling element, probably looks like this:

A pc repair shop, can help with the problem.
Or try to blow it out with compressed air.
You just have to make sure, the fan is running when the job is done.

Good luck

My HP Pavillion DV6000 laptop starts up fine and after a few minutes the screen turns black. I can still see the desktop image in the background but barely. If I reboot the screen looks normal again but...

That means your backlight is going out. The fact that it's happening intermittently like that suggests that you have a faulty screen inverter (a small circuit behind the screen that converts DC power to AC, in order to light the florescent backlight).
I suggest replacing it. Here are some on abay for pretty cheap:

It sounds very much like an inverter issue. The inverter sits under the lcd screen in the screen plastics. It is replaceable, but obviously there is a danger the screen may get damaged.

My HP Pavillion DV100 notebook shuts down whenever it feels like. What could be causing this.It is 3 years old now so off warranty. It will work just fine for a little while and then voila! shut down.

Sounds like classic overheating, check your power supply fan, or the fan of your heat sync that seats over your CPU as well as the heat resistant insulation thermal lubricant that's there to keep it cool.

When fans starts to go the bears or motor starts to stick and will intermittently stop. When when it goes altogether it ceases to turn and can cause serious overheating damage to your circuitry.

Hp dv4000 screen turned pink now black

If its not the backlight inverter or cable. It will be the LCD screen itself. It seems the shop you took it to isn't really up on laptop repair, as this is a common issue I see often. Get on Ebay and find a screen for your model and replace it. I asure you this will fix your problem.

Can't get out of hibernation

I recommend you to do it the nasty way, unplug the power cord, and detach the battery.
Also, you may need to update windows, because this will happen again and again, there is something wrong in your windows and I can not say what it is with out working on the computer.
