Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have a pinnacle 500 pci capture card, a sony slv-se70 VHS recorder, and a creative soundblaster X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty sound card. Previously, I was able to transfer video via a scart lead from the video into the video-in on the pinnacle card, and the audio from 2 phono plugs from the video into the mic/line in jack on the audio card. I recently had to reboot the hard drive, and I have been have problems getting the Pinnacle program to work again. First I had problems getting the video to work. After taking out the PCI card, un-installing the software, and re-installing the software, I got the video to work. Then I discovered that the audio was distorted when playing back recorded material. If I play a video, the sound and picture are synchronised and no problem from the sound when playing through the computer. It all falls apart when I try to capture the footage! I have tried reducing the audio bit rate, to the lowest settings. I have tried changing the audio in from line-in to mic-in. I still have the same problem. At the moment I have succeeded in stopping any audio playback in the pinnacle edit facility (although there was audio during the capture process, and there is distorted out of sync audio if I play the video clip through VLC player). I have been trying to sort this problem out by looking at forums on the web, but nothing I have tried has worked so far. I think my computer is powerful enough to do the task. I have the following instsalled - Pentium dual core 6300 @ 1.86GHz 2.86 GB DDR RAM Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT Graphics card SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium Fatality Sound Card 3 hard drives (2 IDE & 1 SATA) Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 3) Regards Ian

I have the ACE Mega Codecs Pack installed. I have also updated Pinnacle Studio 10 to. I only have one desktop computer, and a laptop. The PCI card would not fit into the laptop, and I would be scared of taking someone else's computer to bits to test the card. I must admit that the last time I used this software was over a year ago. So unfortunately, I don't know when it stopped working.

You stated that "I recently had to reboot the hard drive". Exactly what do you mean by this. Did you have to reinstall Windows XP on the computer? Also let me know the model of motherboard you have.

The reason I ask this is it is possible that you are having a resource conflict on the system that is causing your trouble.

With your current computers on the market they like to put al-ot of onboard devices on the system which can cause problems. The one thing that can help is the virtual IRQ and they manage the system resources. However sometimes they will have issues and/or reset causing the system to destabilize.

Yes I had to re-install Windows XP, this was because when I first ran the pinnacle program, it kept freezing the computer. After a couple of hard resets, Windows wouldn't start at all. I kept getting the message that essential windows drivers were corrupted or missing. So after using a spare hard drive to load windows on, I backed up all the files I wanted to save on the crashed C Drive, and started with a clean install again. The motherboard I have is an ASUS P5VD2-VM.

So this link is to your motherboard. If you look on page 1-22 you will see the routing chart for the system. If you look at IRQ assignment chart you will see the that both your PCI slots are sharing resources with your USB ports. So you might try disabling those ports in the BIOS to see if this make a difference. Also you might try moving the capture card to the other slot as well.

Also make sure that you have the onboard audio and video disable since you are not using them. In addition if you are not using your serial or LPT printer port I would disable those as well

    This should help out alot

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

Hi.

Did you try installing audio and video codecs? The codecs are used to play compressed MP3 and video files. Update audio and video codecs.

Download K-Lite Codec Pack

Free-Codecs.com :: Download Codec Pack.

If that does not work, test the Pinnacle adapter using a different computer. You need to find out if the problem suddenly started because of a defective Audio interface adapter (the Pinnacle Studios PCI card) or because of a software problem (often caused by automatic updates).

If problem happened recently you could also try rolling back the system to a date before the problem started. If you have uninstalled the Pinnacle software in the meanwhile, then you will need to reinstall the software.
All settings will be rolled back to the date of restore.

Regards.

Will I be able to convert from VHS format to DVD using the SLV-660HF assuming I have the converter cable and software?

Don't see why not. Search E-Buyer.Com for something called Videomate C100 Video Audio Capture Card, that will set you on the right track to record on to DVD, software included to make DVD's.

I can't configure or access my flexijack on Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series Sound Card

well the ports on the card could be shot and the card might have been installed by a person with a static charge built on thier hands without them knowing, which can cause the card's electronics to fry and be ALMOST completely disabled. try using a different mic or taking the card out and re-installing it.
