Question about Kenwood KDC-C662 6-Disc CD Changer

2 Answers

Is there an identical model in a 5 CD magazine? It is trunk mounted and has a limited controller; LCD with 4 buttons: play, stop, >> and <<. The controller mounted within easy reach, and of course played through the car's radio at 88.3 MHz or so. I'm trying to identify it cuz it's packed away and i want to get istall pdf's. I been thru all the pics i could find, this one looks identical except 6 CD and no controller. What's mine called?

Hey,
It is the same thing - some came with 6 - some with 5 and some were mounted in the front of some cars.
You will be fine as long as you follow the instructions to the T.
Take down the vin of the car and call the dealer and ask for the original printout of the wiring or the entire woring harness layout from the car with that VIN# - and ask for RECALLS while your doing this.

Thanks for choosing Fix Ya.

Hello,
Can you see some sort of a serial number or any numbers at the front portion of the cd changer? Most of the 5 CD changer from Kenwood is for home players not for the car.
Kindly let me know about the information I am asking.

    Hi, thanks for your help.
No, as I stated the unit is packed away. I have a newer car and am doing work on it, I need to know where I will be running cable and drilling holes from the trunk, or follow whichever bundle already in place, to the dash controller.
I'm sure it is an older Kenwood. Just the lack of the limited control unit in the pics, and nice remote units in changers that have one, lead me to believe it would be shown with the main player and the magazine.
what's the next step in the quest to pre-identify this 5 CD Kenwood, trunk mounted, older model Kenwood? (It's prob mid to late 90's, very probably pre-millennium). Came in a mid '80s Lincoln as an aftermarket install, but any number of owners along the way to me could have installed it.
I had it in early 21st C and someone else removed it for me after an accident a few years later.

hope that gives you a timeframe and explains why I don't know how to install it, or even look at it for now while I am already doing other car work.

I dont remember if that year had a theft lock system or not, but I am looking into it. disconnect the negative battery cable for ten minutes and that should get you back to where you can enter the unlock code again and use the radio.

How unlock region codes on a U.S. model samsung bd-e5900

I have just checked the physical layout of the US remote compared to my Aus/NZ model. They look almost identical, except for the button on mine named REPEAT..and on yours named HUB. This is the button immediately below the PAUSE button. Why don't you try the following HACK (which definitely worked me)..but push your HUB button instead of the REPEAT.?. It may work...fingers x'ed. 1. Ensure that there is no disk in the tray. 2. Switch the player off and then back on. This is necessary to clean-boot the firmware. 3. Wait until the main menu page appears and the player stops doing anything. 4. Press the eject button to open the tray. (The button is between the "Power" and "TV Power" buttons at the top of the controller.) 5. Press the eject button to close the tray. 6. Wait while the player searches for a disk. 7. As soon as the "No Disk" message appears at the top right corner do the following. 8. Press the REPEAT button - just above the TV channel selector at the bottom right of the controller. 9. Enter 76884 on the number pad. This is The Code If You Have A Region 4 Player (Other Region Codes Given Below) 10. The region code "4" should appear at the top right corner of the screen.(this just flashed on then off, so keep an eye on the screen) 11. If you see "4" over the top right corner, quickly enter "9" to make the player region free. 12. Power down and power up again. 13. Play a foreign DVD to verify the change. Other Region Codes To Be Used In Step 9 If You Dont Have Region 2 Player Samsung Region Codes 1 - 2 9 3 3 4 2 - 5 7 5 3 8 3 - 5 6 7 3 2 4 - 7 6 8 8 4 5 - 5 3 8 1 4 6 - 2 4 4 6 2 YOu may have to try many times. YOu have limited time window to enter the numbers. As soon as you see "4" on the top right corner, quickly enter "9".

My Honda accord Sedan car CD Player cannot eject CD .

Before connecting any cables you must set the dip switch box to the position listed for your vehicle. If you set the dip-switches after you have connected cables to the box, you must disconnect and reconnect them for the changer to operate. All 1992-2004 Honda's are compatible with the Neo Changer except the 2003 and 2004 Honda Accord and all Honda Element vehicles. Some radio models require pressing "Seek >" once to start playing after changing CD or after startup. The radios display will not show the proper disc number after disc six. You can use all 10 discs in the magazine, but the readout will be wrong. This is not a technical problem; the car stereo was designed for no more than six discs. *Due to the direct access disc system, you will not be able to directly access discs 7-10. To access these discs you will have to go to the last track on disc 6 and let it play until it loads disc #7. ( you can fast forward the track, but you must let it play the last 5 seconds of the track, for it to change to disc # 7 Switch to the Neo Changer by pressing the "CD" button. To change discs press "Disc -" and "Disc +" To change tracks simply press "Seek <" or "Seek >" S E T T I N G S F O R H O N D A 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 ON OFF OFF ON OFF OFF ON OFF

CD stopped playing in middle of disk. Will not

It is likely that the cable has become disconnected from the disk changer in the trunk.

Examine the changer (With the car turned off) there could be several cables connected to it. Check them to be sure that they are properly connected.

This is a common problem for people who use their trunk, since items can move around and knock the cables out of their sockets.

Good Luck!

1999 Ford SE digital display reads ''NO CD'' and changer is stuck

Magazine-type CD changers are prone to jamming with a disc in transit between the magazine and the player. You may have to resort to disassembling the trunk unit to get access to the jam.

I drive a 1993 Mercedes Benz 300D and the radio recently stopped working. If you turn it on, 5 clicks sound through the speakers and then the messege "E2" comes over the screen and the radio shuts off.

Here are some causes for this failure: "E2"or "E3" (Without CD Changer)

1 Input Power to the RECEIVER UNIT (Trunk mounted) is missing, Check with volt meter to test for 12 volts
2 Fuse of the RECEIVER UNIT (Trunk mounted) is open, Replace it with 7.5 amp fuse.
3 The BUS CABLE (gray colored) that connects to HEAD UNIT(dash mounted) to the RECEIVER UNIT(trunk mounted) is not connected or is defective.
4 RECEIVER UNIT(trunk mounted) is defective. Go through these and try your radio. Hope this works out for you.

''CDDJ ERROR'' WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PLAY VIA ALPINE CHANGER

My local Lincoln Dealership wanted to dismount the actual Clarion CD changer (I thought, and unfortunately reported to you, that the CD changer manufacturer was the same as the radio/cassettee unit that is installed in my dash, Alpine) from my 99 Town Car and ship the unit out for repair for a minimum of $130.00. Instead, I went to a local Radio Shack franchise who installs/repairs car electronic audio/video systems and they: dismounted the unit from the trunk; took the dismounted unit to their workbench; removed all the housing, etc. and finally were able to manually extract the fully populated 6 CD magazine stuck within the CD changer. Additional efforts (including inserting my spare magazine into the CD changer while it was on the tech's work bench) to determine exactly why the magazine would not eject while the unit was connected via the cabling to the car's power, etc. were not productive. So I now have a totally unassembled non-functioning CD changer on my hands. The "CDEJ Error" on the LED area in the dash when the eject buttoon on the CD changer is pushed.still persists. The technician said that it would be a waste of his time and my money to re-assemble the parts of the CD changer. He believes that the motor on the unit has been burned up.

So I am now checking with all the local auto parts salvage yards (we used to call them junk yards) to see if anyone has a usable Clarion CD changer for a 1999 Lincoln Town Car available that would be plug compatible with my existing Alpine factory installed Premium CD/Cassette audio system and the former factory installed trunk mounted Clarion CD changer. The Radio Shack franchise technician has already checked with the Clarion factory people and they iindicated that they no longer have my Town Car installed CD changer model available, new, used, refurbished or otherwise.

For what it's worth, here are the part numbers and other potentially important data that appear on the "cage"/sheet metal/housing that surrounds the working parts of the CD changer itself:

Assembly Part Number: F8VF-18C849-AE

Part Number (presumably the "cage"?): F8VF-18C830-AE

Date Code: 0998

Serial Number: 0201832

Mounting Orientation: Vertical

System Revision Level: 9.2

So it looks like I may have a potentially very expensive replacement of my whole audio system on my hands. I have been quite happy with my somewhat "obsolete" audio system and I have a very large collection of CDs which I migrate between my Sony 300 CD CDP-CX350 Mega Changer installed in my entertainment center, my car Cd changer and my Sony CD/Cassette player boom box in my master bedroom.

It was suggested to me that if I have to replace the radio/cd/cassette unit installed in the dash of my Town Car that I should consider a replacement model that offers a port to receive Ipod programming as a source of music.

So things have gotten somewhat complicated since the first instance of the Cd magazine not ejecting from the Clarion CD change mounted in the trunk of my car.

Maybe someone out there on your knowledge base knows where I can acquire a used Clarion model CD changer compatible with my car's setup at a reasonable price.

Thanks,

Tom
