Open the printer "print options" or "Print Settings" and select the "Black ink only". I am not very sure about your model, but when you carefully check, you'll see "print in color" "Print in greyscale" it should be somewhere below the "print in greyscale". Hope this helps. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

How do I print in grayscale.I do not get the option in print menu

With respect to color usage during greyscale printing: Unfortunately, with many of the newer inkjet printer models & printer drivers, printing in greyscale actually consumes more color ink than normal draft printing. If you wish to save on color ink, it is suggested to do one of the following as available in your specific printer driver/software:
-Print in Normal - Draft mode (or super draft if available), plain paper.
-Print in Black & White mode only* - Draft mode on plain paper (typically this is the best way to save on ink/printing costs).
-For internet page printing, print using CleanPrint (3rd party software for printing most internet-based content from all major internet browsers. NOTE: not affiliated with Inkjet411): http://www.formatdynamics.com/cleanprint-4-0/
-Keep printer on at all times; power up cycles typically consume large amounts of ink (per Consumer Reports, Aug 2013 issue).

    * Most printer models will still consume a small percentage of color ink due to normal ink/printer maintenance, such as between job 'spitting'. The purpose is to ensure the printhead is maintained to avoid clogging.

Regarding HP 74, 75, 74XL or 75XL repurchase or ink cartridge refilling, if you unable to find a retail / refill store close to you and you are trying to cut ink costs, may we suggest you try a remanufactured ink cartridge from http://www.inkplicity.com/ as their ink cartridges typically have the lowest cost in the USA, have a high reliability rating, come with a 1-year warranty and provide free shipping for all orders above $20 (available to US residents only).

HP 722C has quit printing black in color draft

WORKAROUND: Select EconoFast or Draft as the print quality setting in the printer properties. This will prevent the color cartridge from being used. - Or - Try another color cartridge. The color cartridge is used to print grayscale images in Normal or Best print modes, so if one color has run out, the printout will have the wrong tint. With a full color cartridge, the colors can be properly combined to create a composite black. CAUSE: When printing with Normal or Best as the print quality setting, the HP Deskjet 710C or 720C or 722C series printer will use the color ink to improve print quality output, even when printing a grayscale image.

I have a lexmark x2470 printer.i would like to know whether it as one cartidge or two cartridges.please let me know if it is available in indaia

HI,

Please note that the #2 cartridge is the starter cartridge and the after market cartridge is the #1 cartridge.

The Lexmark X2470 printer uses the #1 cartridge which prints both color and black accordingly. While printing black it uses processed black. Hence, to print color images in "Black Only," please follow the steps given below:
1. Click on "Start," "All Programs," "Lexmark X2470 printer" group and then "Lexmark Photo Editor."
2. Click on "File" and then "Open" to select the color image file.
3. Click on "Image," "Mode" and then select "Grayscale."
4. Click on "Print."
This will print the image in gray.

I want to print in only black but my printer keeps telling me to install my color cartridge. How can I get my printer to work/print using only the black cartridge

You can print in only black and white by choosing the grayscale option in the print properties, but you still have to have ink in each of the color cartridges. Even if you are only printing black, the machine will not let you print if any of the colors are out.

Replace the empty ink cartridge, and then select "grayscale" to print only in black and white.

Is there any way to get my printer to print only black copies without having to buy the new color print cartridge

Go to the printer settings - Preferences- color tab - and select Grayscale in the color selection.

Once this is done, try print a color text and see if it comes in a gray scale. This will work.

To give you a tip on this.... understand that this printer has a black ink cartridge and a tri-color cartridge. When we select grayscale, only black cartridge would be used.

Good Luck.

I want to use black ink only and stop wasting color ink

Hi,
Go to Control Panel->Printers. Then right click on your printer and select printing preferences. There you will see an option like Print in Grayscale or Black and White only.
However, please note that some printers although they are set to print in grayscale they also use the color cartridge and some even don't allow you to print in grayscale if the color cartridge is empty. Why is that? Manufacturer's way of charging you more money.

Color toner used up even though I selected grayscale

Selecting grayscale only will also make use of your color. when u select grayscale, look under the print options and select black cartridge only and for more economic printing, use fast draft or draft printing.

Won't print because color cartridge is empty and l don't need color

Try changing printing preferences/properties. Click on option for color, then click on box for "black ink only" or similar. Try now. If you still cannot print after changing preferences/properties, you will need to replace color ink cartridge due to manufacturer's built-in software that prevents printing when ink is low. Great for the ink companies!!!

How can I print Black only?

Hi

HP Inkjet printers work only if both the cartridges have ink unlike HP Laserjet printers.
If you want the printer to print only in black, Follow the steps

Start --->Control panel -- >Printers and faxes ---->Right click on the printer icon (HP c5100) select printing preferences.
Under printing prefences there u will see an option to print with black or print in gray scale.

Note:HP Inkjet printers like Photosmart C5180 will work only both the cartridges have ink.

Thanks
Riz
