Question about Televison & Video

My 5++ year old JVC VCR/TV is stuck on safe when I was using my VCR remote control. Check and changed batteries, no good. Tried manually, no good , Safe comes onto the screen. CAN'T record, play or view Menu. Can only put cassette in and eject, that's all it can do. How do I "un Safe" this to return to full functions ? Thanks, Clarence

OK what you have to do is access the "Service menu" this should be in your manual, really you need to find yourself a Service manual, for your exact make and model, as well as your user manual. Inside these manual are the instructions to do this. Please find and download the manuals and follow the instructions. Google...... name-of-your-unit SERVICE MANUAL download.

I would like to help you unlock your JVC combo unit stuck in SAFE mode.

I have to guess somewhat, since I don't have your model number in front of me: if my suggestions don't work, please feel free to post this make and model information, as it will help us help you.

This 'safe' mode business is designed for locking display units at stores etc so customers can't 'mess' with them too much.

Generally speaking, the rule is you hold down a button on your remote (for 5-10 seconds) to unlock the TV's functions. If your remote has a 'display' button, start with that. If it has an 'Info' button, try that next. If still no joy, try the same sequence using buttons on the front of the TV instead of the remote.

(Note: fancy remotes like logitech harmony universals also have a unrelated safe mode of their own, but I believe I understood you correctly that it is the TV's display stating that it is feeling 'SAFE', and that you are using the standard jvc vcr remote control, yes?)

Oh, and if you haven't tried it already, while you are waiting for me or my brethren to get back to you if these solutions didn't work, unplug your TV from the wall for 10-15 minutes - this resets many electronic brains more often than not.

I hope that helps.

I would like to program an older Samsung tv to my JVC LP21036-038 Remote I need the codes?

Unfortunately, the JVC LP21036-038 remote can only control JVC devices. It doesn't have any adjustable codes. You can choose between 3 codes (A, B, and C) so that using 3 JVC video devices doesn't result in conflicts. This remote came with the JVC HR-XVC14BU among other devices. The manual for the VCR/DVD player is available from JVC support. The direct link to the manual is http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/90/LPT1148-001A.pdf . See page 17 of the manual for the details.

I'd recommend you get a cheap universal remote to control the Samsung TV and the JVC vcr/dvd player.

I wish that I had better news for you.

JVC television-lost old remote-have universal /can't add channels

I don't have an answer for your question.

However, I do have a suggestion. You can hook up a vcr to your tv, then put the tv on channel 3 or 4 (whichever the vcr is set for) and change the channels through your vcr. You have to have the cable go first to your vcr and then out to the tv.

Changing Remote Control Code

This Remote is capable of transmitting two control codes; one set
to respond to A code control signals and another set to respond to
B code control signals. This Remote control is preset to send A
code signals because your VCR is initially set to respond to A code
signals. You can easily modify your VCR and the Remote to
respond to B code signals. When using two JVC VCRs, set two
VCRs and their Remotes to different codes, so that you can
operate these VCRs separately.

A
Set remote control code for Remote

A
Press and hold A/B.
B
Press the Number key .2..
C
Press OK, and release A/B.

.
The Remote now can transmit B code control signals.
B
Check remote control code for VCR

Press and hold 4
on the VCR for more than 5 seconds while the
VCR is turned off. The code currently set appears on the display
panel.

C
Change code for VCR

Press any key on the Remote. The VCR now responds to B code
control signals.

.
To set the Remote and the VCR back to A code control signals,
repeat the same procedure as shown above except pressing the
Number key .1”
in step B
of 1
1111.
To control two VCRs with the same Remote

You can control two JVC VCRs by switching the remote control
code for the Remote between A and B (.
step A
AAAA), keeping two
VCRs to different control codes.

.
To change only the remote control code for the Remote, DO
NOT perform steps B
BBBBand C
CCCC.

VCR stuck on menu screen

Thank you. I did fix the problem. Reviewed the instruction manual for the Samsung VCR and removed the SAFE reading on the VCR by just holding down the TV-VCR button on the RCA universal remote for several seconds which then released the frozen menu screen. From there I was able to reprogram the TV using the instructions and codes for the RCA universal remote. I still have to reprogram the VCR.

Delay with channel surfing

Two things I would check before contacting JVC. In the on screen menu does it have a setting under tuner controls to disable AFC? It sounds like the tuner is seeking the proper channel frequency before it locks it in and displays a picture. If there is no such setting, then I would try a channel autoprogram in the cable mode. I'm assuming you have no cable or satellite TV box hooked up to the set. JVC is usually a pretty good brand name.

JVC HR-S3901 S-VHS / Switching from TV to VCR no longer works . . .

Ifyou do not see the VCR/TV button switch on the front panel, then its a problem most likly with the firmware in the microprocessor. If you do see the VCR/TV indicator switching in or on the front panel display, most likly a defective RF modulator/switcher or RF antenna pack. You may still be able to get one from like MCM or tritronics or PTS corp can rebuild it for you. I have seen this type of break down many times with VCR's as we used to do hundreds of VCR repairs a day as we did factory service for several companies in the NY/NJ area. Good Luck Please do not forget to rate this thread.
