my sharp lc-37sb24u power light just blinks every 5 seconds and the tv wont turn on. it used to blink for a little while like that and then eventually turn on but now it wont come on at all. I have opened the tv up and nothing seems burnt out on the boards or anything. What part sounds like it needs replacing from this situation?

OK, I have found you some training manuals and your user and service manuals, Please download these and perform the troubleshooting steps, and you will soon isolate your issue, and you can then attempt repair.
With this symptom, it is impossible to tell what the exact "Cause" of this symptom is. The LED's do not tell us what is wrong, sometimes it may indicate the "Area" in your case it is the X board. BUT thats NOT where the "Fault is" thats just the part that is affected. These days unlike the "Old" analogue days it just isn't realistically possible to fix anything but the most basic of problems with todays sophisticated units. This is quite apart from the Safety aspect, any unit that can cause a firs or have an explosion, or both, is NOT to be treated lightly, and and the repairer, of the unit is legally responsible, another thing to think about. Also, one must have tools, a Multimeter, a soldering iron, a deslodering iron, an oscilloscope, a signal tracer, tools, and most important of all, a Service Manual, without which, there is no way to even begin to understand and fix it, and more importantly Program it, AFTER it has been fixed. As these days a TV, is a PC, a Tuner, and an HDTV Monitor, and more, all in one. in the "old" days TV"s were more, rudimentary, and built to last for 20 years, and a "Parts" supply was set aside. They usually used to fail for only a few reasons, and they while still difficult, were less difficult to repair. Electrical knowledge was transferable, and they could be and would respond to, This-is-the-symptom-This-us-the-Fix, But that no longer applies, as now, it can be a Fault on I squared Bus, or "Sensor" failure, or it simple may have "Crashed" just like a PC, It could be a Diode go bad, and that will stop the whole thing. You see, in the day, the sets were Very "Fault Tolerant" because they were Analouge, and a faulty, component, or more sometimes, the set would always diplay something usually, and when they didn't it was one of only a few things, sure there are always the horrid ones, and there are pleanty of those, but all in all it was quite easy. But with Digital Electronics, it either goes, or it doesnt, there are usualy few half measures. I mean thats the definition of logic either going or not. So it can take very little to completely paralyse a set, and generally give the only sysmptom, it can, by not working, usually No picture, or the like. So you, see the list is endless almost for any given SYMPTOM, as that is what is being seen, not the cause, as I keep going on about. Also any fault, usually involves the Power Supply, it is either the cause, the cause of the damage, or it is damaged. or ALL of them. Then after you have done the electronic repairs, you then must program the set to work, and align, and set up in general, any one of those settings missed or done wrong, back to square one. So, it is nearly always my professional opinion that one should always get a "Quote" form the manufacturers recommended service center, I cannot stress how important that last point is. It is even worth the cost of shipping. you see an authorised service agent, will have trained staff, trained on their brand, also they have first hand access to parts, original parts. This will actually save you money and ensure you can actually get it back fixed. Of course asking for a "Quote" also gives on the option of repair or replace. Often my clients,do not go through with repair, unless it is moderate, but in some of the more costly jobs they see it, as do i, that a replacement, with a warranty, is a better option. As an aside here, one could then tear the TV down, and sell the Known Good bits. You'd be surprised who needs parts, i myself often must by from third party sources to effect a repair. So money could be recouped, somewhat, and help out someone else.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Blinking light means that the power is getting to the unit however, as its not working which means that the power board should be checked. To start with open the back of the unit and then check the power supply board for any bad (bulged/swollen) capacitors. Power supply board is the board where all the power cords/plugs goes into. After you have checked that also check the main board and if you can use a multimeter to test the components on these boards. All this should only be done if you have knowledge of internal circuitry of the unit as the components consists high voltages even when in off position. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

ok so how do I check? Can you send me some pictures of where I am to place the voltage meter and what setting I am to put the voltage meter. I need a complete how to. I just ordered a new power supply board because I was told this was the problem but another person told me it is the inverter board, and now you are telling me it might be the main board. Can you please tell me how to check to see which one it is before I order more parts.

    Thank You

    Thanks for model info.
Blinking green light shows problem with either power supply board or back light inverter board.
I'm not sure about your expertise about tv repair, however power supply output volts should be checked by DVM to narrow down problem and of course its job of qualified tv technician.
    Thanks.

  • henry52521 Jun 01, 2010

    Shahid Electronics Jun 01, 2010

It is hardware issue in tv, if your are handy with electronics stuff repair and can replace parts in tv circuit board with proper tools then you should attempt to repair tv.
It is not some kind of operational problem.

  • henry52521 Jun 01, 2010

so what test do I have to perform to see if it is the power supply or the back light invertor

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Jun 01, 2010

Test was already mentioned, check output volts of power supply board at its connectors.
Or swap that board if its possible.

Two light are blinkin' in from panel. and tv

This seems to be a common problem. I have the same issue. Repair man says its a power supply (he thinks). When the lights start blinking, press the power button on top of the tv (not the remote) and most of the time it will come on and work. I am going to try to replace my power supply and see if that fixes the issue. If so, I will update this post.

Sharp LC-37SB24U will not turn on

I can tell you 100% that the problem that you are having will be a service issue. I can also tell you that your limited warranty covers in home service from sharp. Give them a call 1-87-SEE AQUOS(the advantage line that will get you through much quicker). or the 1-800-BE-SHARP and let them set you up for service, sharp will take care of that as long as the purchase date of your tv was within 1 year. If you dont want to go through that, I suggest taking the tv back to where you got it from if they will accept it because unfortunately, this problem can ONLY be resolved through service. good luck & keep me posted

Power light blinking green,nopicture lc-32sb24u lc-37sb24u

This same thing happened to me, but not until I fiddled with all of my remotes, trying to see if it was an input issue, battery issue, etc. I finally unplugged the tv from the wall and plugged it back in. Nothing. Then I went to take 5 minute ****. When I finished, the Power & OPC lights were blinking, and out of sync. I pressed the power button at the top of my TV and got a picture.

Word.
