Welcome to the world of faulty power supplies by sharp. I have seen this problem in 100's of tvs on fixya. Before confirming it though try unplugging the set, hold for 2 min and plug it back in. See if it fires up. The reason for this when there is a power surge the circuit protect mechanism is activated and the tv will be shift into protect mode. The only way to reset the protectors is to unplug and replug.

so how do I fix it? Do I need new power connector or power cord or need new board?

    eagle338 May 30, 2010

You are gonna need a replacement power supply board. That will do the trick. Please get me the part number printed on the board so that I can find you a replacement.

  • henry52521 May 30, 2010

ok thank you very much. let me take a look at it and see the part number. I heard that it was the tv tuner or main board? So it has nothing to do with that? Like when I push the power button the tv power light just flashes green in intervals of 2-3 seconds. i'm sorry but I just want to make sure because I don't want to lose a lot money. Thank You very much.

  • henry52521 May 30, 2010

PSD-0552 I am not sure if this is the part number but this is what it says. thank you

No I don't think its the tuner. Do you hear clicking noise before the LED turns red? Also the number you have given me is the board no. The part number is of 10-15 characters length.

  • henry52521 May 30, 2010

oh there is no red light only flashes green and then stops. Oh let me look again.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 May 30, 2010

SO no LED after that? Or it stops blinking and you have a steady green?

  • henry52521 May 30, 2010

when I plug it in, it constantly blinks green. It doesn't stop. So every like 3 -5 seconds it blinks or flashes green.

  • henry52521 May 30, 2010

there is no picture or sound just a flashing green led power light.

The service mode is the only to confirm whether its the power supply. One of our experts has suggested a way to reset the unit via the service menu. Try the following method and see if it works for you
Try unplugging the unit and while unit is unplugged hold the volume up button and channel down buttons down and while depressing both buttons plug the unit in. Let go of the buttons and the unit should come on in the service mode. There will be a small k on the screen. With the sharp remote press the channel up button once. This should bring up a menu that will show a lamp error line. If the lamp error is = to 5 the unit is in lamp error shut down. User channel down to highlight that line and curser right arrow to highlight the lamp error #. Hit the enter button to clear the lamp errors. Now unplug the unit and let it sit for a minute and plug back in. I hope this corrects the problem. If the unit does not come on by doing this or if it does and you do not find lamp errors the power supply pcb may have been damaged by the surge.

  • henry52521 May 30, 2010

yea that didn't work. Right when I plug it in the green led power light just keeps flashing every 5 seconds. So what do you think it is?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 May 30, 2010

Its confirmed that you are gonna need a new power supply board. Please get me the part number. The one you have previously given me is the board number which won't be accurate as manufacturers use the the same model of board for different parts.

eagle338 Jun 01, 2010 or should do the trick. Search using the part number to ensure that you get the correct part.

This is a bad power supply and an easy fix. Their are several electrolytic capacitors on the power supply. If one is bad it will have a bulge on the top. Mine had a bad 2200uF and a bad 1200uF capacitor. About $7 worth of parts at Radio Shack. Radio Shack had the 2200uF but it was axial leads instead of radial. (leads come out of each end instead of one end) but It will still fit. They only had a 1000uf capacitor so I combined that with a 220uF capacitor and wired them in parallel. Make sure you put them in with the correct polarity.

Turn tv on. green light solid display, no picture or sound

The flashing green light is likely indicative of a self-test failure, indicating the TV has detected some sort of internal fault. With no picture or sound, one strong suspect is the power supply. Flat-panel TV's have an internal DC power supply that converts the inbound AC current, and when these fail, or are unable to supply a minimum level of power to the set, it can behave as you describe, providing only enough power for the green light to illuminate.

Flashing green power light

If the model indicated here is right It could be in the power supply and this model sometimes fails where light just blinks--that could be also convergence issue--in this model there is a way to disconnect the power going to the convergence board to see if set will then turn on.

My TV had the same problem. I called Sony yesterday and they told me to reset the TV. I did so yesterday, and it seemed to work. Here is the transcript with instructions:
Please turn ON the TV. While holding down the RESET button on the Remote control, press the POWER button on the TV. The TV will turn itself OFF, then back ON again. Release the RESET button. The TV will go thru the initial setup, and should work normal.

Philips 20PF4121 LCD tv no picture but flashing error codes

I had exactly the same problem When the TV was switched on all I could see was a flashing green light. After cheching the TV internals and not seeing a problem including the power supply unit which looked and checked normal. Here is what I did to get M TV working again.
Disconnect it from the power supply. Hold down all the buttons simultaneously i.e. the on/off, the volume, the programme, menu buttons, all of them simultaneously and Plug it into the power supply again.
Lo and behold My TV jumped back into life after an absence of about 4 weeks.
Try it yourself exactly as above.

Best of luck.
