I'm still having a problem with adding a second monitor to my setup, it's a Jetway a 15" monitor TFT Lcd monitor, and works only intermittently. I'm running windows xp with a nvidia geforce 7900 gs. by "intermittently" I mean the screen will flash on for half a second and then go black. I've been unable to use it as a default monitor, the same problem happens. Thanks!

Hello
The problem monitor, have you tried using it alone with the computer? Does the problem persist when the problem monitor is only connected monitor on the computer?

If so, then the power supply of the monitor is most likely faulty, but can quite easily be repaired by replacing any bulky or leaking capacitors on the power supply board inside the display or by purchasing another external power supply (depends on the monitor, most use a internal power supply, so you just have a cord that goes into the monitor.)

When and if you take the monitor apart, stay away from the 200 - 600 V big capacitor on the power board, it may hold voltage even after being unplugged for a long period of time.

Ok, well, it looks like the monitor is working, but is very, very dark. When I turn it on then off it looks "on" and has a normal brightness but then instantly looks dark (at night I thought it was off). When I shine a bright light on it, I can see the screen, but I'm not sure what settings I can change so it doesn't go into it's dark screen mode. Help!

  • Ekse May 30, 2010

okay, that sound like the back lights would need to be replaced, if that doesn't solve the problem, then the issue is on the inverter / power board (in todays monitors, they are the same board)

To check if its a setting problem, open the Menu / set up, with the buttons on the display, find the factory reset or reset from the menu and do it.

if the problem persists its a internal hardware fault in the display, most likely the back light tubes / lights need to be replaced entirely, if the issues remain, then the problem is the power board.

A LCD monitor repairer will be able to test another working back light to confirm if the issue is either the lights or the board, if the issue is the board the technician will be able to repair / replace the faulty components from the board to repair it.

  • mwhitcombb May 30, 2010

I wonder if repairing the back lights on this monitor would be cost effective, I could buy a 19" monitor for about 120$ what would the repair on something like this cost, any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • Ekse May 30, 2010

Well, I purchased a faulty display 17" from ebay for 9 dollars, It had a cracked screen but the back lights where fine. It also had the other internal components in good shape.

So I could take those back lights from that 17 " monitor and swap them on another 17" monitors back lights. so that repair would cost me 9 dollars.

As for the power board, for the repairer, it will not cost much to repair, it will be a very cheap repair, he will of course charge you for the parts, time and knowledge.

Components like capacitors only cost around 0.2 $

  • Ekse May 30, 2010

    120$ for a 19".. I personally wouldn't buy that as new.

Try your luck with this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/1-DELL-1907FP-19-INC...

if your really lucky you might get this one for the price of shipping.

  • Ekse May 30, 2010

note that you can swap out backlights from amonitor to another, but the boards, mainboard, powerboard will be different. you will need to replace those parts with the same or otherwise OK parts for that model.

also note that the power board itself can be repaired, it is quite simple board and this can be repaired cheaply by a trained professional.

You are right when you say that "might not have proper drivers". In most cases, this is driver issues. But before doing that, check the "refresh" rate. Sometimes, this is also a hidden culprit. Your choice is to update the video card driver. If you let me know the video card you are using (the one where you second monitor is connected), i could help you better in finding the drivers for you. Please let me know how you would want me to help you. If at least you can tell me the video card name let me find the update link for you. Awaiting your response. Good luck and thanks for using FixYa.

it is an Nvidia geforce 7900 gs. the monitor will come on for a second especially during the boot up, or when I turn it off and then shake the mouse, but then goes black.

  • mwhitcombb May 30, 2010

I've searched for a Jetway driver, and went to their site, but I couldn't get a driver it said "No download, for you." weird. The darn thing seems to want to work, but isn't, I went through all the refresh rate settings for "display 2" and the monitor would flash on then off. Do you have an idea what driver I could get? like a generic one or something?

When I say "Drivers", I don't mean the monitor drivers, but the driver for your Geforce 7900 graphics driver, You can download from this link from the Nvidia website. Here's the direct link GeforceNvidiaGraphicsDriver, you'll need to select the operating system type you are using,

    Option 1
    Like this,
    Produce type : GeForce
Product Series : GeForce 7 Series
Operating System : Select your O.s.
Language : Your choice, by default is "English"

    Option 2
There's a feature with which you can let the application automatically find appropriate drivers for you. I recommend this.

For you monitor, it's alright, you don't need driver. Good luck once again.

  • mwhitcombb May 30, 2010

ok, I'm trying that, I'm downloading the driver now, but it seems to me that this monitor (which is an older one) might need a driver specifically for it. Perhaps Nvidia creates drivers for monitors which may be out dated? I hope this is the case. If this nvidia update (which I am currently downloading), doesn't work what is the next step?

    thanks,

I hope you've set one of the monitors as "Default". If not do so by going to the display options. Don't worry, just let me know. I think you don't have another video card, do you? Let me know, so that I can help you better.

  • mwhitcombb May 30, 2010

I don't have another video card, I did download the nvidia driver, and I'm having the same problem, the jetway monitor will flash for a second and then go black there is two ports on the nvidia card for seperate monitors. It's strange to me that the monitor would work momentarily but then go black, must be a driver or software issue. I tried the monitor on the main monitor port and the same thing happened, it won't work as the default, apparently.

  • Lebanon Raingam
    Lebanon Raingam May 30, 2010

This is another strange thing again. Anyway, swap the ports and check if it helps or not.

  • mwhitcombb May 30, 2010

okay, that didn't work at all, and then it seemed that envision montior my primary wouldn't go back to the default, tell me again how to select it as defaut, I have it as number one in the mulitple monitor setting right now. Any other driver solutions you could think of? I don't think the monitor is broken but it doesn't work when I swap it to the main video output, just flashes and disspears.

  • Lebanon Raingam
    Lebanon Raingam May 30, 2010

I am afraid when you say "it didn't work at all". Didn't you see any effect when you swap the ports? Isn't the other monitor working on another port? I don't understand, please clarify once again.

Now let's proceed with complications, you have to let me know the refresh rates of both monitors, resolutions, monitor type (name and model), Graphics card - onboard or add-ons, Operating system (with bit, x86 or x64). Awaiting your response.

Still here waiting for your response, if you can, please let me know, it's been almost two hours now. Thanks.

Incorporating a second monitor is a great Idea, I've used three to four on my workstations for many years. Setting up multiple monitors involves more than just hardware, the card manufacturer's software and operating system is involved. Since you didn't note the OS, I'll assume Win7. First, simply right click the desktop, and select "Screen Resolution" to see a page headed "Change the appearance of your displays," below which show be a graphic that shows both monitors with a number "1" and "2" on each. Arrange them by dragging and dropping them to reflect your physical arrangement. Then, select the fourth drop-down titled "Multiple" Displays" and select "Extend desktop onto this display," then click the "Apply" button followed by the "OK." button. If your hardware and drivers are set up properly, you should have everything working at this point. Your Nvidia software should have installed a control panel item that you can use to make tweaks to your system. You can also contact Nvidia technical support for more detailed, OS-specific assistance.

TROUBLE CODE CLEARING

1. Follow the diagnostic procedures to service the fault condition flashing on the air bag indicator prior to code clearing.

2. Cycle the ignition switch to OFF and then to RUN.

3. Observe air bag indicator prove-out (six ? two seconds) followed by diagnostic trouble code (52-85) flashing completely one time.

4. Locate the Diagnostic "Trouble Code Clear" Connector (grey connector). located underneath the glove compartment, left side (06010) containing Circuits 631 (T/R) and 57 (BK).

5. Use a jumper wire to short Circuit 631 (T/R) to Circuit 57 (BK) or to another good ground. This short must be made after the diagnostic trouble code flashes completely one time, but before the warning light stays on continuously.

6. Hold short until air bag diagnostic monitor tone sounds (approximately five seconds).

7. Release short on Circuit 631 (T/R) to Circuit 57 (BK). This short must be released within 25 seconds after the diagnostic monitor tone sounds.

Diagnostic trouble code is now cleared from memory. Next highest priority diagnostic trouble code stored (if one exists) will begin flashing.

The codes and clearing proceedure above are to be used as a guide, NO claims are implied as to the correctness or accuracy of either.

ViewSonic 19" flat screen monitor goes black - intermittently

Hi,
There could be a problem with your display card settings or the display card itself. If you are using Windows operating system, make sure that you have the monitor driver installed for that specific monitor. This is to ensure that Windows only allows settings for which your particular monitor was designed.
Let me know if I can assist you any further regarding this.
Best wishes,

My hp w1907 monitor is constantly auto adjusting every 1 or 2 seconds. Make it stop.

Good morning! Auto adjustment occurs when resolution or refresh rate of the display changes. Check your display setings in OS. Set them properly according to product operations manual. Update your display adapters driver. Also check your VGA card or motherboard display port & try using a different cable. try pluging the monitor to a different computer or plug in a different monitor with your motherboard or VGA cards display port. best regards

LCD monitor goes blank

It appears that the display resolution set in your display properties is out of the range that the LCD can display.

Try this.

Boot to the ENABLE VGA MODE by pressing F8 to get the Windows Boot Menu. If you can get to the desktop, then go to display properties, and see if you can change the resolution to higher settings and maintain video. (If the video blanks out, then it should revert to the previous setting in 15 seconds)
