Hi. Inorder to do this you need to go to services.msc from run window in windows xp computer. Start search in vista and win 7 computer. Look for print spooler then right click on that then select start the process. If it doesn't work then create another user account from control panel and restart your computer to login from another account.

How to restart printer spooler


Please follow the steps below to clear the print queue and restart the print spooler.

1. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET STOP SPOOLER (this will stop the print spooler service)

2. Browse to your windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\ folder. You should see files there ending in .SPL and .SHD created around the time you tried to print - delete these files.

3. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET START SPOOLER (this will restart the print spooler service)

4. Double click the printer icon in the lower-right corner of your taskbar to examine your print job queue and browse to View -> Refresh.

I'm trying to print but it says the local print spooler service is not running please restart the spooler or restart the machine I followed the procedure but it did not work.


Try this approach instead:

Print spooler not working


Hi Good day!!! Maybe your print spooler stop, check your printer spooler in your control panel "Start - Control panel - Performance and maintenance - Administrative tools -Services - check your print spooler in the services box. or simply restart it. and then restart your computer. your printer spooler should running now.

If u r using the XP operating system, follow the steps to restart the spooler :

1. Click Start and then click Run and in the run window type services.msc and then press Enter.
2. Locate Print spooler from the Services window which is opened now.
3. Right click on it and select Start.

Windows could not start the spooler service on local computer when trying to connect hp c309a printer


If you the print spooler isn't working, you can either manually turn it off and on by going into your control panel - Administrative Tools - Services - Print Spooler - Then click the restart button.

The other easy option which usually works is just restarting your computer. This will restart your print spooler as well.

I cannot print, the service spooler is not running


In run window type services.msc and the go to print spooler option just stop and restart the service.

I have installed hp photosmart and get an error message '' restart print spooler error 1068'' I have tried everything but cannot restart my printer spooler.


go back to your services where you start the print spooler. open the dependency tab. there it will tell you what other services the print spooler needs to have running. check them and if any are disabled change them to auto and restart them. reboot and you should be OK.

Restart the Print Spooler device
  1. Open Administrative Tools.
  2. On the Windows taskbar, click Start , and then click Control Panel .
  3. Click Performance and Maintenance . NOTE: This step is not necessary in XP Classic View.
  4. Click Administrative Tools .

Printer spooler freezes


you can try restarting the printer spooler by

pressing start -> run -> type in Services.msc

on the services list find print spooler and right click - restart.

That should solve it without a restart.
