It doesn't print in black but prints in color

Hi, To ensure this is only an issue with the black, I recommend printing off a nozzle check. This will show you if this problem is effecting any of the other colours.
To print a nozzle please refer to chapter 12 page 115 of the manual,
If colours are missing I recommend cleaning the print head. You have two options for cleaning the print head a normal clean and a deep clean, start by doing a normal clean if required try doing a deep clean.
You can download the manual here:

Black will print properly only on "High" Print setting

After all the trouble shooting you have done their most likely a hardware issues causing the problem.

Not printing in black

Replace the ink with a new one. Can be the black ink was empty or dried out and not produce black. Or you may try a print head cleaning sometimes the print nozzle was clogged.

Hope this helps.

The printer goes in motion to print but doesn't print anything.

have you tried cleaning the print head? clean it by rubbing the contacts of print head and cartridges with alcohol which should sokve the problem due to clogging or blocking.
you can also use the print head cleaning software to help you.

No printout showing (offline)

If printer wasn't used much before you got it I would suggest that the heads are blocked. My experience with Canon Smartbase printers is they block easily. Try to soak the head in warm water or use an ultrasonic bath to clean out the head and see what happens.

Cleaning the print head:

At any time, DO NOT wipe the actual print head with your fingers. Use ONLY water.

-Remove print head assembly from printer.
-Remove ink tanks.
-Use running warm water, wash away the exess ink that is dried around the print head.
-Take one disposable mug, fill with hot water, drop the print head assembly in there, and let it soak for an hour, or so.
(-IF you have massaging shower head, with spray jet -function, use this to deep clean the actual print head.)
-Dry it up carefully, do not wipe actual print head, just tap gently with soft paper.
-Install ink tanks, install assembly to printer, let it settle for some time (5-30 minutes)
-Run Nozzle check, cleaning, print head alignment
hope this helps if you have further problem do let me know

Printer Problem

Hello Dear,
The nozzles of the print head are jammed. you can try this take about 50 ml of luke warm water (please ensure that the temperature of the water is not too high as it may spoil the print head physically) in a small flat base dish and keep the print head in it (only the bottom part the nozzles should be dipped and not the green circuit chip) for about 30-40 minutes there are about 40% chances of print head recovery, if this solves your problem them its ok or you have to purchase a new Print Head for your printer.
Warm Regards,

Canon smartbase mp730

Have you tried doing some maintenance like nozzle check, printing head alignment, clean the nozzles if not then try it by going into control panel - printers and faxes - where you see your mp730 right click and go to properties then click on the last tab which would be maintenance.Try those options if none worked then u might have to replace you print head and that should work
