Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

2 Answers

I have a dell desktop and am wanting to remove the old hard drive and install the AMD Phenom II X2 550 3.10 GHz Processor - Dual-core. I have never done anything like this before, and am wondering if this is a simple or a complex procedure. Any installation advice would be appreciated.

In addition to what meshteroo posted, when you swap out your processor and/or motherboard, you will have OS reconfiguration issues. That will trigger Microsoft activation, i.e., you'd better have your Windows key handy. I am not saying cpu/mb upgrades are not worth it. Just saying you should know what can of worms you're opening. ;-)

First of all you can't replace a hard drive with a CPU (AMD Phenom X2 is a processor), second your computer supports only socket 478 CPU's ( that means no AMD Phenom only older Intel Pentiu 4/Celeron CPUs. My recommendation is to replace the motherboard and CPU altogether. But since your knowledge is relatively low i think you should not do it by yourself.

What is the best quad core for ax3400g-u4802

The best quad core for that computer would be the AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition. It will fit in your computer's AM3 socket, and is outrageously fast. It will cost a pretty penny though, almost $200.

Hello again, Upgrading CPU's

Your board supports socket AM2 CPUs the fastest of which is the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ dual-core processor at 3.1 GHz.

Your motherboard does not accept socket AM3 CPUs.

Want to have a clear comparison between AMD Athlon Bribane X64 5200+ 2.7 GHz with Intel E4500 Core2Duo 2.2 GHz

Hi there.
There's not much difference between the two processors.
The AMD has a slightly higher clock speed and is a very stable processor.
The Intel processor are known to run hot so cooling is an issue, but overall Intel are leading the way with dual core processors at the moment.
Have a look at the AMD Phenom 2 processor as they are apparently very good.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

AMD or Intel Processor for desktop gaming and animation purpose

when it comes to new processors i would definatly suggest any intel from the core 2 series. AMD is having problems with overheating and has all but abandoned thier quest for quad core glory.
