Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

My Brother CS 4000 sewing machine had an LED (or LCD; not sure) display that lets me select stitches, stitch size, etc. The light went out and I can't select stitches. Well, I can...the machine still works and it will switch to different stitches but without the display it's a big surprise every time what I will get. Nobody in town will repair my Brother and I'm sure it's just a simple thing because sometimes the display light flickers on again when I sew fast.

Does the manual show the diagram of the screen?

  • Kat1212 Jun 01, 2010

Yes, it does. The window is a little rectangle, and underneath, on the left corner, are two buttons with a plus and a minus sign on them. They represent stitch selection...I hit the first button to select 0,1,2, or 3 . There are 30 built in stitches on the machine. The next button has numbers up to 9. I can still select stitches by counting while I click on the plus or minus button, but it's not great because the buttons are very sensitive and I often get something other than what I was trying for.
I think it's just a matter of loose wires inside.
    Thanks for contacting me.

Is it a matter of a burnt bulb? I don't have this machine, but usually a bulb can be replaced without a service rep.

My LCD is black and cannot be read.

First, check to be sure the Display has not been dimmed to the point where it is black.

If that is not the case, then a computer component has probably failed.

My sewing machines picks what stitch it wants to use

Turn the power off and try to move the needle bar back and forth horizontally. Does it move easily? No means the installation position needs adjusted so that it will move easily. The other areas that could be a problem is 1. pulse motor or wiring needing replaced. 2. PC Board needs to be replaced.

If the stitch is loose you need to adjust the tension, if the stitches are preset you cannot adjust them but you should have various sizes on the machine if electronic

E1 flashes on the message window of my brother sewing machine

Brother Computer Codes
  • E1: Make sure the presser foot is lowered before sewing.
E2: You chose a stitch other than a buttonhole stitch or a bar tack stitch and you tried to sew with the buttonhole lever in the lowered position. Raise the buttonhole lever.
E3: If you selected the buttonhole or tack bar stitch and start to sew with the buttonhole lever raised, you will get the E3 code. Lower the buttonhole lever.
E4: You hit the reverse button while the bobbin winder shaft was moved over to the right. Move the bobbin winder shaft to the left.
E5: On automatic sewing machines, the start/stop button was pressed while the foot controller was plugged in. Unplug the foot controller if you are using the automatic function.
E6: This code tells you that the motor locked up because the thread is tangled. Untangle the thread, make sure the machine is threaded properly and that the proper tension is set before continuing.

My Brother LS-2125 does not stitch forward - only in reverse.

What stitch selection have you made, anything to do with the buttonhole? If, so make sure that you let it go through the cycle then, pick a straight stitch pattern with a longer stitch length. You can also go online to brother-usa.com and see if there are any other suggestions

I actually have a Brother XR40 sewing machine (not XR35). I get a nice stitch on the bobbin side of the material, but not the top. The top is more like a straight thread anchored down and not a nice...

The machine was accidentally dropped. We started with an E7 error, and now an E3 error message.

E7 means
The start/stop button, reverse/reinforcement stitch button
or the thread cutter button was pressed while no thread
cassette was installed

E3 means
The buttonhole or bar tack stitch was selected and the
start/stop button was pressed while the buttonhole lever
is raised.
(make sure buttonhole lever is in correct position)

If the start/stop button is pressed before the sewing machine is correctly set up or if an operation is performed
incorrectly, an error message appears in the stitch indicator. Follow the instructions that appear.
If you press (Stitch selection key) or do the operation correctly while the error message is displayed, the
message disappears.

Brother Super Galaxie 2100 Buttonhole lever not working

I have a problem with my CS 8150 which sometimes tells me to lower the pressure foot even though I had already did it. What clears the problem for me is that I eject the thread cassette and re-install and I can go ahead and sew. Try that to see if it will quit telling you to pull down the lever.
