May 30, 2010 - Sunneyskies I want to thank you for your input. My carberator is mounted on the gas tank. i pulled it off and cleaned the detachable pickup filter. i pulled out the needle and seat it was clean and free. the hotter the engine gets it seems the quicker it dies. If you have any other thoughts i would appreciate them. Again thanks so much for your help. (5 hp briggs and stratton/craftsman tiller problems) See less

Hi. You still have junk in your carb. Get a can of starter fluid and a helper. As you run the engine have your helper give it a squirt of starter fluid directed at the air intake until the engine runs smoothly. J.

Hi please forgive the simple question. Is ther fuel in the tank? If there is the outlet of the tank could be blocked. Pull the fuel line off and turn fuel on you should see a steady flow if not remove tap and clean filter in tank. Otherwise check for kinked or damaged fuel lines. And drain the bowls on the carberator's. hope this helps Regards Jim...

Have a 225 bobcat welder wont stay running can add fuel to carberator but if i stop sparing fuel in unit stops??

The fuel pump is one of the probable faults, or the needle valve in carb is stuck in closed position.

If the fuel hose is removed at carb, it should squirt gas as the engine is cranked over. If not, look in tank to see if the screen on the barb threaded into the tank has not clogged up with debris. If it is clean, replace fuel pump.

If it squrits gas- open up the carb and check to make sure the float is able to pull the needle valve down as well as the float level setting. When the bowl is exposed, look for sediment as well.

I have a craftsman chainsaw 2.2 cubic and there are 3 fuel lines two comming from the primer bulb and one going from carb into the motor or crank. The return is connected to a nipple on the crab and the...

This is a common problem. The fuel lines can become brittle and fracture, or sometimes they swell and will not stay on their connections.

The tube that connects between the carburetor and motor is likely used to pulse the fuel pump that is internal to the carburetor.

The primer pulls the fuel through the carburetor drawing the air out. As the primer is stroked first air than fuel is pumped out of the carburetor. The output of the primer returns to the fuel tank. That fuel line appears to have failed or become disconnected in your craftsman. Either the hose has broken at or near the fuel tank, or has pulled out of the tank. There is a small hole in the tank for many machines. The hole is smaller(providing a seal) than the tube diameter requiring a minor force to squeeze the tube back in place.

Look for the fuel feed tube that also connects from the fuel tank to the carberator. Any loose connections will allow air into the carberator and it will not beable to run.

Important is that the fuel feed tube can not be switched with the return tube from the primer. Connected inside the tank is a fuel filter that protects the carberator from contamination.

Hope this helps?

How do I reconnect the plastic gas line inside the gas reservoir that has split and come off the connector nipple?

best to just run a complete new line from the carberator into the tank. can get new line from most lawn mower shops. now, the trick here is to take the end of the line going into the tank, and cut it on a steep angle, otherwise, you'll never get it into the tank. by cutting angle on the end, it will go thru the tank where you can get ahold of it with needle nose pliers and pull it on thru. its really not a bad job, just takes a little time to do. good luck

Usually, the front seat bracket has a bolt in it that when removed will allow the bracket to come off then allowing the tank and ruber mounting to also lift off and slide back. don't forget to turn the tank to off position and remove hose from carberator first!

My Sears rototiller will only start when I put gas directly in the carberator and then stalls out.

Sounds like you need to clean or replace your fuel lines. (Tubing/hoses) that model is pretty cut and dry with how its set up to pull start. Or maybe the gas in the tank is OLD? Try running a tube from a small can of fresh gas, to the carb. If it runs that's your problem!
