Question about Computers & Internet
Pentium IV 3.4GHz HT (prescott processor)
Trigem 865PE motherboard (MSI?)
I plugged a USB peripheral in and it blew the PSU fuse.
My pc is on a surge-protector plug which didn't blow, neither did the fuse in the plug. I have a working PSU but the board still does not come on (the psu won't either).
I have a good knowledge of electronics and am probably capable of carrying out a repair if it can be diagnosed - perhaps its a common problem with these boards, which are quite old now.
As always, finding the problem is 9/10ths of the solution, so if anyone can give me some pointers i will report back here to the community if and when its fixed to report what the problem was.
ps - please ask if more info is required. I have a multimeter and so can check various inputs outputs etc.
First replace the PSU, (it might be badly damaged - not only the fuse) and if you were unlucky enough to blow the chipset too it won't start even after the PSU replacement.
