Question about Dell Inspiron E1705 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705. When I had tried to boot up, the screen said "time of day clock stopped." I replaced the BIOS battery and now nothing is happening. Not even the light indicating the computer is on is lit up. What can I do to remedy this problem and get my laptop back up and running?

Replacing the BIOS battery should solved the issue. It is written in their manual. Please click here for the full troubleshooting manual of your computer. Contacting DELL is needed if after replacing the battery you got the same issue.

Time-of day clock stopped

This usually happens when the BIOS battery is flat and you need to set the date and time every time you boot up the notebook.
Replace the BIOS battery with a new one then go into the BIOS configuration and set the date and time and you will not have this problem.

This is the solution from dell website :"Connect your computer to an electrical outlet to charge the battery. If the problem persists, call Dell for technical assistance". if laptop have warrenty then take it to DELL. if no warrenty, if you know how to open laptop , just replace the CMOS battery. or take out the CMOS battery for minute or two, and put it back. try both methods. if problem persists take it to DELL. best of luck..

Soon as it start up its says RTC mode fixed- Time and date may be wrong. then its says time-of-day clocked stopped and it want let me go anywhere from there.

When you get this message you need to go to the BIOS configuration to change the date and time setting.
If this happens again when you boot up later, then the BIOS battery is flat and needs to be replaced because it cannot save and retain the BIOS settings.

This could mean two things: a problem with the cmos battery or the motherboard itself. Try to remove the cmos battery first and install. If not, then replace the cmos battery.

Time-of-day clock stopped on dell xps m1330

When you alter the Date and Time and next time you boot up again the date and time has reverted back to some other time, this indicated the BIOS battery is flat and it needs to be replaced.
To fix this problem, replace the BIOS battery and change the date and Time setting.

Dell E1705...Same problem...lights on boot up

If the screen goes dark after BIOS, there is a software conflict - either a driver or screen resolution was set incorrectly. a couple of ideas to solve:
boot from disk, or another hard drive - if this works, it confirms the software conflict - which would mean having to re-install the OS.
